1、Designation: B496 14Standard Specification forCompact Round Concentric-Lay-Stranded CopperConductors1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B496; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revisio

2、n. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers bare compact roundconcentric-lay-stranded conductors made from uncoated roundcopper wires for general us

3、e for electrical purposes. Theseconductors shall be constructed with a central core surroundedby one or more layers of helically laid compacted wires(Explanatory Note 1 and Note 2).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematic

Joints4.1 Welds and brazes may be made in rods or in wires priorto final drawing.4.2 Welds and brazes may be made in the individual rounddrawn wires for compact conductors, but shall not be closertogether than 1 ft (300 mm) for conductor of 19 wires or lessor closer th

Mass and Resistance8.1 The mass per unit length and dc electrical resistance ofa compact round conductor ar

The standard increment ofmass per unit length and electrical resistance shall be taken as2 %. The nominal mass per unit length and dc resistance areshown in Table 1. When

16、 the dc resistance is measured at otherthan 20C, it shall be corrected by using the multiplying factorsgiven in Table 2.8.2 In cases where the lay is definitely known, the incrementmay be calculated if desired (Explanatory Note 3).8.3 For conductors to be used in covered or insulated wiresor cables,

17、 direct current (DC) resistance measurement may beused instead of the method outlined in Section 9, to determinecompliance with this specification.9. Variation in Area9.1 The cross-sectional area of the compact round conductorshall be not less than 98 % of the cross-sectional area asspecified in Col

18、umn 1 of Table 1.9.2 The manufacturer shall determine the cross-sectionalarea by Test Method B263. In applying this method, theincrement in mass per unit length resulting from stranding maybe the applicable value specified in 9.1 or may be calculatedfrom the measured dimensions of the sample under t

Variation in Diameter10.1 The average diameter of the compact-round conductorshall not vary by more than +1 % and 2 % from the diameterspecified in Table 1.11. Finish1

20、1.1 The conductor surface shall be smooth and free ofimperfections not consistent with the best commercial practice.TABLE 1 Construction Requirements of Compact Round Concentric-Lay-Stranded Copper ConductorsConductor SizeNumber ofWiresNominal Compact ConductorDiameterNominal Mass,lb/1000 ftNominal

35、 3The increment of mass or electrical resistance of a completedconcentric-lay-stranded conductor, k, in percent, is:k 5 100 m 2 1!where m is the stranding factor, and is the ratio of the mass or electricalresistance of a unit length of stranded conductor to that of a solidconductor of the same cross

36、-sectional area or of a stranded conductor withinfinite length of lay, that is, all wires parallel to the conductor axis. Thestranding factor m for the completed stranded conductor is the numericalaverage of the stranding factors for each of the individual wires in theconductor, including the straig

37、ht core wire, if any (for which the strandingfactor is unity). The stranding factor, mind, for any given wire in aconcentric-lay-stranded conductor is:mind5 = 119.8696/n2!where n = (length of lay)/diameter of helical path of the wire. The derivation of the above as given in NBS Handbook 1003is basedo

The physical properties of the individualcompacted wires will be altered by the deformation brought about bycompacting, unlayi

Various means are available, such
