Scope1.1 This specification covers an 85 % platin

3、um15 %iridium alloy, and a 90 % platinum10 % iridium alloy, in theform of rod, wire, strip, and sheet material for electricalcontacts.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for

4、 information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 The original specification, B684 - 81, covered the 85 %platinum 15 % iridium alloy. The 1997 revision of this speci-fication added the 90 % platinum 10 % iridium alloy.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any

Manufacture3.1 Raw materials shall be of such quality and purity thatthe finished product will have the properties and characteristicsprescribed in this specification.3.2 The material shall be finished b

8、y such operations (coldworking, annealing, turning, grinding, or pickling) as arerequired to produce the prescribed properties.4. General Requirements4.1 The provisions of Specification B476 shall apply to allmaterials produced to this specification.5. Chemical Requirements5.1 Material produced unde

9、r the specification shall meet therequirements of chemical composition prescribed in Table 1.5.2 By agreement between purchaser and manufacturer,analysis may be required and limits established for elements orcompounds not specified in the table of chemical composition.NOTE 1Analysis is regularly mad

10、e for the elements for which specificlimits are listed. If, however, the presence of “other” elements is suspectedor indicated in the course of routine analysis, further analysis shall bemade to determine that the total of these “other” elements and the listedimpurities is not in excess of the total

11、 impurities limit.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 The contract or order may specify ultimate tensilestrength, elongation, microhardness (Knoop or Vickers), hard-ness (Rockwell or Rockwell Superficial), or a combination ofthese mechanical properties as temper criterion. If the contractor order does not

12、 specify a temper criterion, then the criterionfor temper designation will be ultimate tensile strength.6.2 The mechanical properties shall conform to those prop-erties listed in Table 2 and Table 3. The term “work hardened,”as used in these tables, refers to material which has beensubjected to a mi

13、nimum of 30 % reduction in crosssectionalarea.6.3 All test specimens shall be full size when practical.6.4 All tests are to be conducted at room temperature, 65 to85F (18 to 29C).1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B02 onNonferrous Metals and Alloys and is the direct resp

16、ited States17. Test Methods7.1 Test methods shall be in accordance with SpecificationB476.7.1.1 Knoop hardness tests shall be in accordance with TestMethod E384. Material 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) in thickness(diameter) and larger shall be tested using a 100-g indenterload. Material less than 0.005 in. (0

17、.13 mm) in thickness(diameter) shall be tested using a 50-g indenter load. Aminimum of five hardness indentations shall be made on eachspecimen. All indentations shall be made so that the long axisof the indenter is parallel to the rolling or drawing direction ofthe material. The hardness value repo

18、rted shall be the averageof the five indentations.7.1.2 All tension test specimens shall be full cross-sectionsize when practical (see Test Methods E8).7.1.3 All tests shall be conducted in room temperature, 65 to85F (18.3 to 29.4C).7.2 Chemical analysis shall be performed by spectrochemi-cal or wet

19、 analysis methods.8. Inspection and Testing8.1 Material furnished under this specification shall beinspected and tested by the manufacturer as listed below:8.1.1 Visual inspection per Specification B4768.1.2 Tension or hardness tests, or both, for temperverification,8.1.3 Dimensional inspection, and
