Scope1.1 This specification covers hot- or cold-worked hafniumrod and wire.1.2 This specification contains two material gra

3、des, onespecifically for nuclear applications (Grade R1) and one forcommercial alloying applications (Grade R3).1.3 The products covered include the following:1.3.1 Rod38 to 1 in. (9.5 to 25 mm) in diameter.1.3.2 Wire less than38 in. (9.5 mm) in diameter.1.4 Unless a single unit is used, for example

4、, corrosion massgain in mg/dm2, the values stated in either inch-pound or SIunits are to be regarded separately as standard. The valuesstated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem must be used independently of the other. SI valuescannot be mixed with inch-pound values.1.5 T

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 rounds, flats, tubes, and wrought powder metallurgicalproducts (single definition, common to nuclear and non-nuclear standards) , na lot shall consist of a material of thesame size, shape, condition, and finish produced from the sameingot or

8、powder blend by the same reduction schedule and thesame heat treatment parameters. Unless otherwise agreedbetween manufacturer and purchaser, a lot shall be limited tothe product of an 8 h period for final continuous anneal, or toa single furnace load for final batch anneal.4. Ordering Information4.

9、1 Purchase orders for material under this specificationshall include the following information as required to ad-equately describe the desired material:4.1.1 Quantity (weight or number of pieces),4.1.2 Name of material,4.1.3 Form (rod, wire),4.1.4 Finish (Section 12),4.1.5 Applicable dimensions (dia

10、meter and length),4.1.6 Grade (Table 1),4.1.7 ASTM designation and year of issue,4.1.8 Zirconium analysis requirements (Table 1), and4.1.9 Workmanship standards (Section 13).NOTE 1A typical ordering description is as follows: 500 lb hafniumrod, annealed; mechanically descaled and pickled; 0.375 in.

11、diameter by 6in. minimum random lengths; Grade R1; ASTM Specification B737 - 01.4.2 In addition to the data specified in 4.1, the followingoptions and points of agreement between the manufacturer andthe purchaser shall be specified on the purchase order ifrequired:4.2.1 Mechanical test temperature (

12、see 8.1),4.2.2 Mechanical test requirements for Grade R3 (Section8),4.2.3 Straightness (Table 2),4.2.4 Special tests (Section 11),4.2.5 Inspection (Section 16),4.2.6 Hafnium isotopic composition and its analysis, (Table1),4.2.7 Metallurgical condition (Section 6),4.2.8 Corrosion test Grade 3 (9.3),4

United States15. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Material covered by this specification shall be made byconventional

16、hot and cold working procedures, from ingotsproduced by vacuum melting in electron beam or consumablearc furnaces, or both, of a type conventionally used for reactivemetals.6. Metallurgical Condition6.1 All grades furnished under this specification shall be inthe recrystallization annealed condition

17、 unless otherwise speci-fied.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The material shall conform to the requirements forchemical composition as prescribed in Table 1.7.2 The manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for material produced to this specifica-tion except for hydrogen and n

18、itrogen content which shall bedetermined on the finished product.7.3 Analysis shall be made using the manufacturers stan-dard methods.7.4 Sampling for chemical composition shall consist ofsamples taken at top, middle, and bottom of the ingot. Samplesfor hydrogen and nitrogen shall be taken as two ra

19、ndomsamples from each lot at final size.8. Mechanical Properties8.1 Grade R1 in rod form shall conform to the requirementsprescribed in Table 3 for room temperature mechanical prop-erties. Elevated temperature properties shall be used to deter-mine compliance only when specified in the purchase orde

20、r(see Test Methods E21).8.2 The yield strength shall be determined by the offset(0.2 %) method as prescribed in Test Methods E8.8.3 The tensile properties shall be determined using a strainrate of 0.003 to 0.007 in./in.mm/mm/min through the yieldstrength. After the yield strength has been exceeded,

21、thecross-head speed shall be increased to approximately 0.05in./in.mm/mm/min to failure.8.4 Requirements for mechanical properties do not apply towire.9. Corrosion Properties9.1 Two samples chosen at random from each lot shall becorrosion tested in water at 680F (360C), 2690 psi (18.5MPa) for 672 +

22、8 0 h using the manufacturers standardprocedure.9.2 Grade R1Coupons shall exhibit a weight gain of notmore than 10 mg/dm2.9.3 Grade R3Test for information only, if required bypurchase order.10. 29、.B737 10 (2015)211. Special Tests11.1 Additional tests may be specified in the purchase order.The test method and standards shall be agreed upon in advancebetween manufacturer and purchaser.12. Finish12.1 Rods shall be furnished with one of the followingsurface finishes as designated in the purchase

30、 order:12.1.1 Mechanically descaled and pickled,12.1.2 Centerless ground and pickled, or12.1.3 Centerless ground, pickled, and oxidized.12.2 Wire shall be furnished with one of the followingsurface finishes as designated in the purchase order:12.2.1 Conditioned and pickled, or12.2.2 Conditioned, pic

31、kled, and oxidized.13. Workmanship13.1 Cracks, seams, slivers, blisters, burrs, and other inju-rious imperfections shall not exceed standards of acceptabilityagreed upon by the manufacturer and the purchaser.14. Number of Test and Retests14.1 Two random samples shall be taken from each lot.14.2 If a

32、ny sample or specimen exhibits obviouscontamination, improper preparation, or flaws disqualifying itas a representative sample, it shall be discarded and a newsample or specimen substituted.14.3 If the results of any test lot are not in conformance withthe requirements of this specification, the lot

33、 may be retested atthe option of the manufacturer. The frequency of the retest willbe double the initial number of tests and if the results of theretest conform to the specification, then the retest values willbecome the test values for certification.All test values, originaland retest, shall be rep

34、orted to the purchaser.15. Significance of Numerical Limits15.1 For the purpose of determining compliance with thespecified limits for requirements of the properties listed in thefollowing table, an observed value or a calculated value shallbe rounded as indicated in accordance with the roundingmeth

Inspec

36、tion16.1 The manufacturer shall inspect the material covered bythis specification prior to shipment. If so specified in thepurchase order, the purchaser or his representative may witnessthe testing and inspection of the material at the place ofmanufacture. In such cases, the purchaser shall state in

37、 hispurchase order which test he desires to witness. The manufac-turer shall give notice to the purchaser as to the time and placeof the designated tests. If the purchasers representative doesnot present himself at the time agreed upon for the testing, themanufacturer shall consider the requirement

38、for purchasersinspection at place of manufacture to be waived.16.2 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-ing the purchaser, without charge, all reasonable facilities tosatisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification. This inspection shall be so c

39、onducted asnot to interfere unnecessarily with the operation of the works.17. Rejection17.1 Rejection for failure of the material to meet therequirements of this specification shall be reported to themanufacturer within 60 calendar days from the receipt of thematerial by the purchaser. Unless otherw

40、ise specified, rejectedmaterial may be returned to the manufacturer at the manufac-turers expense, unless the purchaser receives, within 3 weeksof the notice of rejection, other instructions for disposition.18. Referee18.1 In the event of disagreement between the manufacturerand the purchaser on the

41、 conformance of the material to therequirements of this specification or any special test specifiedby the purchaser, a mutually acceptable referee shall performthe tests in question. The results of the referees testing shall beused in determining conformance of the material to thisspecification.19.

42、Certification19.1 A producers or suppliers certification shall be fur-nished to the purchaser that the material was manufactured,sampled, tested, and inspected in accordance with this speci-fication and has been found to meet the requirements. Thecertificate shall include a report of the test result
