Materials and Manufacture5.1 The alloys may be made by any approved process.5.2 The material covered by this specification shall be ofuniform quality and shall be free from dross, slag, or o
17、therharmful contamination.5.3 Jumbo or block ingots shall conform to configurationshown in Specification B 897, or to a shape and size previouslyagreed upon.5.4 Material produced under this specification shall conformwith the General Requirements of Specification B 949, unlessotherwise noted in this
18、 specification.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 LimitsThe alloy shall conform to the requirements asto chemical composition prescribed in Table 1. Conformanceshall be determined by the producer by analyzing samplestaken at the time the ingots are made. If the producer hasdetermined the chemical compositi
19、on of the metal during thecourse of manufacture, he shall not be required to sample andanalyze the finished product.6.2 In case of dispute, the following requirements shallapply:6.2.1 Number of SamplesSamples for verification ofchemical composition shall be taken as follows:6.2.2 If the ingots are s
20、hipped in carload lots of the samealloy, not less than five ingots shall be taken at random fromthe carload for sampling. If the shipment is less than a carloadlot, one sample ingot shall be taken for each 10 000 lb (4 500kg) or fraction thereof. When it is deemed necessary, a samplemay be taken fro
21、m each melt of 1 000 lb (450 kg) or more.6.3 Methods of SamplingSamples from ingots for deter-mination of chemical composition shall be taken in accordancewith one of the following methods:6.3.1 Samples for chemical analysis shall be taken from thematerial by drilling, sawing, milling, turning, or c
22、lipping arepresentative piece or pieces to obtain weight of preparedsample not less than 100 g. Sampling shall be in accordancewith Practice E88.6.3.2 By agreement, an optional method of sampling foranalysis may be by melting together representative portions ofeach ingot selected, and then sampling
23、the liquid composite bycasting suitable specimens for either spectrographic or chemi-cal analysis.6.4 Method of AnalysisThe determination of chemicalcomposition shall be made in accordance with suitable chemi-cal (Test Methods E 536 or E47for tin), or other methods. Incase of dispute, the results se
24、cured by Test Method E 536 andTest Method E47for tin only shall be the basis of acceptance.7. Source Inspection7.1 If the purchaser desires that his representative inspect orwitness the inspection and testing of the product prior toshipment, such agreement shall be made by the purchaser andproducer
25、or supplier as part of the contract or purchase order.7.2 When such inspection or witness of inspection andtesting is agreed upon, the producer or supplier shall afford thepurchasers representative all reasonable facilities to satisfyhim that the product meets the requirements of this specifica-tion
26、. Inspection and tests shall be conducted so there is nounnecessary interference with the producers operations.8. Rejection and Rehearing8.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements of thisspecification may be rejected. Rejection should be reported tothe producer or supplier promptly and i
27、n writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing. If the rehearingestablishes that the material does not conform to the require-ments of this specification, as much of the rejected originalmaterial as possible shall be returned
28、 to the producer orsupplier.9. Identification Marking9.1 All ingots shall be properly marked for identificationwith the producers name or brand.9.2 Each bundle or skid shall be identified with the produc-ers heat, lot, or other identification mark.9.3 Each ingot, bundle or skid shall be marked with
29、theappropriate Color Code for the alloy as per North Americanrequirements in Practice B 908.10. Preparation for Delivery10.1 PackagingUnless otherwise specified, the ingot shallbe packaged to provide adequate protection during normalhandling and transportation. Each package shall contain onlyone all
