15、acture6.1 The base metal shall be steel produced by the open-hearth, electric furnace, or basic oxygen process.6.2 The wire shall be cold drawn and coated withZn5AlMM alloy to produce the desired properties.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements prescribedin Table 3.7
16、.2 Chemical analysis of the steel shall be conducted inaccordance with Test Methods, Practices and TerminologyA 751.7.3 The ingot form of zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal alloyshall conform to Specification B 750.7.3.1 For a two-step coating operation where the firstcoating is zinc (hot-dip galvanized or
17、 electrogalvanized), thefinal bath may have an aluminum content of up to 7.2 %, toprevent depletion of the aluminum content of the bath.7.3.2 Method of AnalysisThe determination of chemicalcomposition shall be made in accordance with suitable chemi-cal (Test Methods E47for Tin), ICP argon plasma spe
18、ctromet-ric (Practice E 1277), or other methods. In case of dispute, theresults secured by Practice E 1277 shall be the basis ofacceptance.7.3.3 Method of Coating Material AnalysisRefer toSpecification B 750. In case of dispute, the results secured byPractice E 1277 shall be the basis of acceptance.

Tensile Test8.1 The Zn5AlMM-coated steel core wire shall conformto the tensile and elongation requirements prescribed in Table4 or Table 5.8.2 Tensile tests shall be conducted in accordance with TestMethods and Definitions A 370, using the initial settings fordetermining stress at 1 % extension g
20、iven in Table 6 or Table7 of this specification.8.3 Test SpecimensThe test specimens shall be free ofbends or kinks other than the curvature resulting from the usualcoiling operations. Any hand straightening necessary to permitinsertion of the specimen in the jaws of the testing machineshall be perf
21、ormed by drawing between wood blocks or bysome other equally satisfactory means.9. Wrap Test9.1 The material, as represented by the test specimens, shallnot fracture when the Zn5AlMM alloy-coated wire iswrapped at a rate not exceeding 15 turns/min in a close helixof at least eight turns around a cyl
22、indrical mandrel with adiameter equal to two times the specified diameter of the wireunder test, 65%.10. Coating Test10.1 The material, as represented by the test specimens,shall conform to the coating requirements of Table 1 or Table2, for the diameter and class of coating specified.10.2 The coatin
23、g test shall be conducted in accordance withTest Method A 90/A 90M.11. Adherence of Coating Test11.1 The Zn5AlMM alloy-coated wire shall be capable ofbeing wrapped in a close helix at a rate not exceeding 15turns/min around a cylindrical mandrel having a diameter asprescribed in Table 8 or Table 9,
24、without cracking or flaking thecoating to such an extent that any Zn5AlMM alloy can beremoved by rubbing with the bare fingers.NOTE 1Loosening or detachment during the adhesion test of super-ficial, small particles of Zn5AlMM alloy formed by mechanicalpolishing of the surface of the coated wire shal
25、l not be considered causefor rejection.12. Joints12.1 No joints shall be made in the finished wire.12.2 Joints may be made at any stage of processing prior tofinal cold drawing by the electric butt-weld or flash orflash-welding process.12.3 Welding equipment and procedure shall be such that itcan be

Density and Resistivity13.1 For the purpose of calculating mass per unit length,cross sections, etc, the density of Zn5AlMM alloy-coatedsteel wire at 20C shall be taken as 0.281 lb/in.3(7780 kg/m3).13.2 A maximum resistivity of Zn5AlMM alloy-coatedsteel wire is not guaranteed but a typic
31、al value of 0.19157Vmm2/m may be used for purpose of calculation. For conver-sion to other units of conductivity or resistivity, refer to TestMethod B 193.14. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations14.1 The specified diameter of the zinc-coated wire shall beexpressed in decimal fractions of an
32、inch to four decimalplaces, or in millimeters to two decimal places.14.2 To determine the applicable tolerance range from Table10 or Table 11, round the specified diameter to the nearest0.001 in. (0.01 mm) in accordance with the rounding method ofPractice E29.14.3 Measure the largest and smallest di
33、ameter taken at thesame cross section rounded to the nearest 0.001 in. (0.01 mm)in accordance with the rounding method of Practice E29.Calculate the average of the two measurements. The calculatedvalue shall not differ from the specified diameter by more thanthe applicable tolerance range shown in T

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance15.1 The Zn5AlMM alloy coating shall be reasonablysmooth, continuous, of reasonably uniform thickness, and freeof imperfections not consistent with good commercial practice.16. Number of Tests and Retests16.1 One test specimen shall be taken

At least half of the specimens shal
44、lbe tested for compliance with Section 10.16.3 Should one or more of the test specimens fail any ofthe tests specified, the nonconforming coil or coils may beremoved and the balance of the lot subjected to retests. Forretest purposes, two additional coils for each 5000 lb or 2500kg in the lot shall
45、be sampled and tested for the property inwhich the original sample failed to comply.16.4 Should any of the retest specimens fail to meet theproperties specified, the lot represented by the test specimensshall be rejected.16.5 Instead of rejecting the entire lot as provided in 16.4,the producer may t
46、est specimens from every coil in the lot forthe property in which failure occurred and reject only thenonconforming coils.17. Inspection17.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer shall be responsible for the perfor-mance of all inspection and test requirement
47、specified.17.2 All inspections and tests shall be made at the place ofmanufacture unless otherwise especially agreed upon by themanufacturer and the purchaser at the time of the purchase.17.3 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-ing the purchaser all reasonable manufacturers facilit
48、ies tosatisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification.18. Rejection and Rehearing18.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification shall be rejected. Rejection should be re-ported to the producer or the supplier promptly and in writing
49、.In case of dissatisfaction with the results of the test, theproducer or the supplier may make claim for a rehearing.19. Certification19.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser showing that the material was manufactured,sampled, tested, and inspected in accordance with this speci-fication, and has been found to meet the requirements.
