In specifying diameters of wire or inspectingwire, the diameter should also be expressed to the fourth decimal place. An excellent discussion of wire gages and related subjects is contained inNBS Handbook 100.5.2 Within the range of diameters included in Table 1, t

17、) Committee.17.2 Tension tests shall be made on representative samples.Unless otherwise agreed upon between the manufacturer andthe purchaser, the elongation shall be determined by measure-ments made between the jaws of the testing machine. The zerolength shall be the distance between the jaws when
18、a load equalto 10 % of the specified tensile strength has been applied, andthe final length shall be the distance between the jaws at thetime of rupture. The zero length shall be as near 10 in. (254mm) as practicable. The fracture shall be between the jaws ofthe testing machine and not closer than 1
19、 in. (25.4 mm) toeither jaw. The elongation as thus determined shall not be lessthan 1.0 %. See Table 2 for related breaking strengths.7.3 When agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser, the elongation may be measured by means of anextensometer suitable for measuring elongation in 10 in.

Torsion Test8.1
23、The wire shall withstand, without fracture, not less than20 torsions in a length equivalent to 100 times the nominaldiameter of the specimen. In the twist test, the rate of applyingthe twists shall be approximately 15/min.8.2 Specimens shall be twisted to destruction and shall notreveal under testin

Resistance9.1 The electrical resistance of the wire (Note 4) shall bed
25、etermined by resistance measurements, and maximum resis-tance shall be based on the minimum diameter of the wire andresistivity value at 20C cmil/ft of 49.39. This is tocorrespond to a minimum conductivity of 21 % IACS.NOTE 4Electrical resistance is calculated by the following equation:maximum resis

27、conformance to the electrical resis-tance requirements of Table 1 shall be made in accordance withTest Method B193.10. Uniformity of Copper Cladding10.1 At no point around the circumference of the wireshould the copper thickness be less than that shown in Table 1.The minimum copper thickness express
28、ed as a percent of thewire size shall be 1.5 % of the wire diameter or 0.015 times thediameter. The minimum copper thickness may be determinedby direct measurements of the cross section of the wire or bymeans of a suitable electrical indicating instrument operatingon the permeameter principle. Joints11.1 There shall be no joints of any kind made in thefinished wire.11.2 Joints may be made in the rods or semifinished wiresprior to drawing to final size in accordance with good com-mercial practice.12. Density12.
30、1 For the purpose of calculating mass/unit length, crosssection, and so forth, the density of the wire shall be taken as0.28807 lb/in.3(7.98 g/cm3) at 20C (see Table 2).13.
