Scope*1.1 This specification covers high magnesium marine appli-cation aluminum-alloy (Note 1

3、), in those alloy-tempers shownin Table 2 Table 3 and Table 4 Table 5, for flat sheet, coiledsheet, and plate, in the mill finish condition that are intendedfor marine hull construction and other marine applicationswhere frequent or constant direct contact with seawater isexpected and for similar en

4、vironments (Note 2).NOTE 1Throughout this specification use of the term alloy in thegeneral sense includes aluminum as well as aluminum alloy.NOTE 2There are other aluminum alloy-temper products that may besuitable for use in marine and similar environments, but which may notrequire the corrosion re

5、sistance testing specified by B928/B928M. SeeSpecification B209 or B209M for other aluminum sheet and platealloy-temper products.1.2 Alloy and temper designations are in accordance withANSI H35.1/H35.1(M). The equivalent Unified NumberingSystem alloy designations are those of Table 1 preceded byA9,f

6、or example, A95083 for 5083 in accordance with PracticeE527.1.3 The values stated in either SI units (Table 3 and Table 5)or inch-pound units (Table 2 and Table 4) are to be regardedseparately as standard. The values stated in each system maynot be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be

7、usedindependently of each other. Combining values from the twosystems may result in non-conformance with the standard.1.4 For acceptance criteria for inclusion of new aluminumand aluminum alloys in this specification, see Annex A2.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concer

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsRefer to Terminology B881 for definitionsof product terms used in this specification.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 exfoliation, ncorrosion that proceeds laterally

20、fromthe sites of initiation along planes parallel to the original rollingsurface, generally at grain boundaries, forming corrosionproducts that force metal away from the body of the material,giving rise to a layered appearance.3.2.2 high magnesium aluminum alloys, nin the generalsense, includes thos

21、e 5xxx alloys containing3%ormorenominal magnesium.3.2.3 intergranular corrosion, ncorrosion that preferen-tially occurs at, or adjacent to, the grain boundaries of a metalor alloy.3.2.4 lot, nan inspection lot shall consist of an identifiablequantity of material of the same mill form, alloy, temper,

22、 castor melt lot, and thickness, subjected to inspection at one time.3.2.5 sensitization, nthe development of a continuous ornearly continuous grain boundary precipitate in 5xxx alloy-temper material, that causes the material to be susceptible tointergranular forms of corrosion.3.2.6 stress-corrosio

23、n cracking, na cracking process thatrequires the simultaneous action of a corrodent, and sustainedtensile stress. (This excludes corrosion-reduced sections, whichfail by fast fracture. It also excludes intercrystalline or tran-scrystalline corrosion which can disintegrate an alloy withouteither appl

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material to this specification shall include thefollowing information:4.1.1 This specification designation (which includes thenumber, the year, and the revision letter, if applicable),4.1.2 Quantity in pieces or pounds kilograms,4.1.3 All

Responsibility for Quality Assurance5.1 Responsibility for Inspection and TestsUnless other-wise specified in the contract or purchase order, the producer isresponsible for

37、 the performance of all inspection and testrequirements specified herein. Producers may use their own orany other suitable facilities for the performance of the inspec-tion and test requirements specified herein, unless disapprovedby the purchaser in the order or at the time of contract signing.The

38、purchaser shall have the right to perform any of theinspections and tests set forth in this specification where suchinspections are deemed necessary to ensure that materialconforms to prescribed requirements.6. General Quality6.1 Unless otherwise specified, the material shall be sup-plied in the mil

39、l finish, shall be uniform as defined by therequirements of this specification and shall be commerciallysound. Any requirement not so covered is subject to negotia-tion between producer and purchaser.6.2 Each coil, sheet and plate shall be examined to deter-mine conformance to this specification wit

40、h respect to generalquality and identification marking. On approval of thepurchaser, however, the producer may use a system of statis-tical quality control for such examinations.7. Chemical Composition7.1 LimitsThe sheet and plate shall conform to the chemi-cal composition limits specified in Table
