Summary of Test Method4.1 The test specimens are placed beneath ultraviolet lampsso that the radiation will hit the sealant directly on onespecimen, and thr
8、ough the glass, on the other specimen (seeFig. 1).4.2 The control specimens for this test method are preparedand tested identically to the test specimens except that theaccessory is eliminated.4.3 After the specimens are exposed, the test specimens arecompared to the control specimens.4.4 In the tes
9、ting of the specimens, any color change in thesealant between the test specimen and the control is noted asare any changes in the adhesion of the sealant to either the glassor to the accessory. This test method requires the preparation ofeight test specimens (four controls and four test specimens fo
10、reach accessory being evaluated).5. Significance and Use5.1 In structural sealant glazing systems, the sealant func-tions as the structural adhesive and may also function as theprimary weather seal. As the structural adhesive, the integrityof the adhesive bond is critical.5.2 Changes in color and ad
11、hesion after exposure are two ofthe criteria that can be used to determine the compatibility ofthe system. Experience has shown that accessories that causeloss of adhesion or discoloration in this test method may alsocause these occurrences in actual use.6. Apparatus and Materials6.1 Glass Panels, c
12、lear float glass, approximately 76.2 by50.8 by 6.4 mm (3 by 2 by14 in.). Eight panels are required foreach material being tested.6.2 Bond Breaker Tape, 25.4 by 76.2-mm (1 by 3-in.) piecefor each panel. The bond breaker tape must be compatible withthe sealants being tested.6.3 Thermometer, for exampl

United States16.5 UV Exposure ApparatusA suitable UV exposure ap-paratus will consist of four UVA-340 lamps in a symmetricalarray situated 254 mm (1
16、2 in.) from the surface of the testspecimens (see Fig. 3). The apparatus shall be capable ofmaintaining a temperature at the test specimens of 48 6 2C(118 6 3.6F). Infrared lamps or other sources of heat may beused to maintain the required temperature.6.6 Cleaning SolventAny solvent capable of clean
17、ing theglass is acceptable (for example, 50/50 mix of isopropylalcohol and distilled water).6.7 Test Sealant, an appropriate amount of the sealant to beused in the system.6.8 Reference SealantA light or translucent sealant of thesame composition as the test sealant. If none is available,contact the
18、sealant supplier for recommendations on a suitablealternative.7. Preparation of Test Specimens7.1 Precondition the unopened containers of sealant atstandard conditions for a minimum of 24 h.7.2 Prior to use, clean the glass thoroughly with the cleaningsolvent and dry with a clean rag before the solv
19、ent is allowedto evaporate.7.3 Place a piece of compatible bond breaker tape to cover1 in. of the top surface of the glass at one end (see Fig. 2).7.4 Prepare a total of eight samples (four controls withoutaccessory and four test specimens with accessory).3Cut a pieceof accessory material approximat
20、ely 6.4 by 51 by 6.4 mm (14by2by14 in.) and place it on the center of the piece of glassas shown in Fig. 2. Both the reference sealant and the testsealant are tested in contact with the accessory.7.5 Apply a bead of the test sealant on one side of theaccessory and a bead of translucent or light colo
21、r referencesealant along the other side of the accessory. Tool the sealant sothat good contact with the glass occurs and the sealant is on topof the accessory. The thickness of the sealant on top of theaccessory shall be approximately 3.2 mm (18 in.).7.6 The control specimens for this test are prepa
22、red andtested identically to the test specimens except that the acces-sory is eliminated.8. Conditioning8.1 Condition all the specimens for one week at standardconditions. After conditioning for seven days at standardconditions, place two test specimens (with accessory) and twocontrol specimens (wit
23、hout accessory) with glass side down,and place two test specimens (with accessory) and two controlspecimens (without accessory) with glass side up, under theUV lamps, in accordance with Fig. 1 (a)and1(b) for 21 days.8.2 In order to provide an appropriate intensity of UVradiation, replace the UVA-340
24、 lamps after eight weeks of use.In order to provide more uniform UV radiation, replace onelamp every two weeks, in accordance with the rotation schemeshown in Fig. 4. 26、 chamber shall maintain an air temperature of 486 2C (118 6 3.6F) when measured at the surface of the testspecimens (see Fig. 3). Check test specimen surface tempera-tures at one-week intervals.9. Procedure9.1 Record orientation of sample under ultraviolet lights(Fig. 1).9.2 At the end of the condit
27、ioning period described inSection 6, remove the specimens from the exposure apparatusand allow the warm samples to reach room temperature. (Coolfor 4 h.)9.3 Grasp the end of the sealant that is above the bondbreaker tape. Pull the sample on a 90 angle to the glass surfaceexerting force on the sealan

30、cord data on report form (Fig. 5).10. Precision and Bias410.1 PrecisionRound-robin testing was performed bythree laboratories using two different sealants and four differentaccessory gaskets. Statistical analysis was performed by com-bining all four accessory gaskets together for each set of tests,r
31、esulting in eight“ materials trialed,” instead of two for eachlaboratory.10.2 Repeatability, I(r)In future use of this test method,the difference between two test results obtained in the samelaboratory on the same material (the repeatability) will beexpected to exceed I(r) only about 5 % of the time
