Scope1.1 This specification covers fiber-cement shingles, shakes,and slates (roofing products) of nominally uniform thicknes

3、s(non-tapered) and texture, including accessories designed toprovide the weather-exposed surfaces on roofs of buildings.1.2 This specification is not applicable to asbestos-cementroofing shingles (Specification C222), non-asbestos fiber-cement roofing shakes, shingles, and slates with designedvaryin

4、g profiles and thicknesses (Specification C1530), particleboard (Terminology D1554), or cement-bonded particleboards(Specification BS 5669: Part 4) and (ISO 8335).1.3 This specification does not include details of productinstallation or installed system performance. Refer to themanufacturers install

5、ation literature for proper installationinstructions, to Specification C1459 for roofing systemsperformance, and to Test Methods E108 for levels of fireresistance.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Manufacture and Composition4.1 ManufactureThese products may be formed eitherwith or without pressure and cured, either under natural oraccelerated conditions, to meet the phys

10、ical requirements ofthis specification.4.2 CompositionThis specification is applicable to fibercement roofing products consisting essentially of an inorganichydraulic binder or a calcium silicate binder formed by thechemical reaction of a siliceous material and a calcareousmaterial reinforced by org

11、anic fibers, inorganic non-asbestosfibers, or both. Process aids, fillers, and pigments which arecompatible with fiber cement may be added.5. Mechanical and Physical Properties5.1 Mechanical and physical properties shall be determinedon uncoated products wherever practical. Where products aresupplie

12、d coated, this material shall also be tested with theresults identified as applying to coated material. Failure of thecoating as a consequence of the mechanical testing shall notconstitute failure of the product. Accessory products shall beexcluded from these requirements.5.1.1 Sampling and inspecti

13、on for mechanical and physicalproperties shall be conducted in accordance with Test MethodsC1185.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C17 onFiber-Reinforced Cement Products and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeC17.02 on Non-Asbestos Fiber Cement Products.Current

Requirements6.1 Mechanical Requirements:6.1.1 Flexural StrengthWhen tested in accordance withTest Methods C1185, the product shall be classified accordingto its modulus of rupture. The product modulus of rupture andbreaking moment in the primary st

17、rength direction shall be notless than that specified in Table 1.6.1.2 Where a manufacturer states a minimum productmodulus of rupture, it shall be at the 4 % acceptable qualitylevel (AQL) at the 90 % confidence limit as are the values ofTable 1.6.1.3 The primary strength direction is that heaviest

18、loadeddirection which will resist wind uplift when the product isinstalled.6.1.3.1 Known Orientation of InstallationWhere the sys-tem design ensures or dictates that the product orientation atinstallation is known, and the product is manufactured suchthat its strongest direction coincides with the p

19、rimary strengthdirection, then classification of product shall be based on itsstrongest strength direction.6.1.3.2 Unknown Orientation of InstallationWhere a sys-tem design does not ensure or dictate that the product orienta-tion at installation is known, then classification of the productshall be b

20、ased on its weakest strength direction.6.1.4 The product modulus of rupture in the weakest direc-tion shall not be less than 50 % of the modulus of rupture in thestrongest direction.6.2 Physical Requirements:6.2.1 DensityNominal values and tolerances for densityshall be stated by the manufacturer, w

21、hen tested in accordancewith the method specified in Test Methods C1185.6.2.2 Water AbsorptionCalculate the amount of waterabsorbed from the increase in weight of the dried specimenduring submersion for a period of 48 h. Express waterabsorption as the percentage by weight when tested in accor-dance

22、with Test Methods C1185.6.2.3 Moisture ContentState the percentage of moisturecontent of the fiber-cement shingle when conditioned at 50 65 % relative humidity and a temperature of 73 6 4F (23 62C) in accordance with Test Methods C1185.7. Dimensions and Permissible Variations7.1 Nominal Length, Widt

23、h and ThicknessThe shapes,size, and thickness shall be specified by the manufacturer.7.2 Length and Width ToleranceThe permissible variationfrom the nominal width and length shall be 614 in. (66.4 mm).The method of measurement shall be in accordance with TestMethods C1185.7.3 Thickness ToleranceThe

24、thickness variation from thenominal thickness shall not exceed 10 % +25 %. The methodof measurement shall be in accordance with Test MethodsC1185.8. Workmanship and Finish8.1 WorkmanshipThe surface of the product to be exposedshall be free of defects that impair serviceability.8.2 FinishThe surface

25、of the product to be exposed maybe smooth, grained, granulated, coated, or otherwise textured.8.3 ColorThe exposed surface of the product may be thenatural color of the fiber-cement product or may be colored bythe addition of mineral pigments, chemical impregnation,pigmented coatings, veneers, or em

26、bedded mineral granules.8.4 Holes for Nails and Supplemental FastenersHoles fornails and supplemental fasteners may be provided in the unitsduring manufacture and, if so, shall be placed as to provide therequired lap and allow for proper application of necessarysupplemental fasteners.8.5 Efflorescen

27、ceEfflorescence that may appear on fiber-cement product is not a defect.8.6 WeatheringIt should be noted that on exposure acolored product will be affected by weathering which may varywith site location pitch and exposure. Any change in finishdoes not in itself detract from the minimum mechanical or

28、physical characteristics as specified in this standard or from thefunction of the product.9. Supplementary Shapes9.1 Supplementary shapes such as starter pieces, hip, andridge finishing pieces, and ridge rolls, shall have the samegeneral characteristics as the product they are designed tocomplement.

29、10. Inspection and Acceptance10.1 Inspection of material, if required, shall be at the pointof shipment. The inspector representing the purchaser shallhave authorized access to the carriers being loaded for ship-ment to the purchaser. The purchaser shall be afforded allreasonable and available facil

34、stitute grounds for nonacceptance.11. Additional Requirements11.1 Additional requirements shall consist of once only testswith manufacturers statement of results provided upon cus-tomers request. Fundamental changes in formulation or meth-ods of manufacture, or both, shall require subsequent retesti

35、ng.11.2 Water TightnessThe specimen, when tested in accor-dance with Test Methods C1185, may show traces of moistureon the underside of the sheet, but in no instance shall there beany formation of drops of water.11.3 Frost Resistance (Freeze/Thaw)The specimens shallbe tested in accordance with Test

36、Methods C1185, Section 16.The ratio of strengths, before and after exposure as calculatedfrom test results, shall be as described in Table 2. Fiber-cementroofing products installation shall be limited to the parametersdescribed in the column labeled “Use Limitations.”11.4 Warm Water ResistanceThe sp

37、ecimens, when testedin accordance with Test Methods C1185, shall not show visiblecracks or structural alteration, such as to affect their perfor-mance in use. The ratio of strengths, before and after exposureas calculated from test results, shall be 80 %.11.5 Heat/Rain ResistanceThe specimens, when

38、tested inaccordance with Test Methods C1185, (Part 15) for 25 cyclesshall not show visible cracks or structural alteration of theroofing such as to affect their performance in use.12.
