Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition, dimensions,and physical pr

3、operties of compression-resistant, perpendicu-larly oriented mineral fiber (rock, slag, or glass) roll and sheetinsulation intended for use on flat, curved, or round surfaces upto 1000F (538C). This product (pipe and tank insulation) istypically used on nominal 24 in. (610 mm) or greater diametersur

4、faces. For specific applications, the actual use temperaturesand diameters shall be agreed upon between the manufacturerand the purchaser.1.2 The orientation of the fibers within the roll or sheetinsulation is essentially perpendicular to the heated/cooledsurface (parallel to heat flow). This specif

5、ication does not applyto flat block, board, duct wrap, or preformed pipe mineral fiberinsulation where the insulation fiber orientation is generallyparallel to the heated/cooled surface (across the heat flow).1.3 For satisfactory performance, properly installed protec-tive vapor retarders must be us

6、ed in low-temperature (belowambient) applications to prevent movement of water vaporthrough or around the insulation towards the colder surface.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The SI equivalents of inch-pound units are givenin parentheses for information only

7、 and may be approximate.1.5 When the installation or use of thermal materials,accessories, and systems may pose safety or health problems,the manufacturer shall provide the user-appropriate currentinformation regarding any known problems associated with therecommended use of the companys products an

Classification4.1 Mineral fiber roll or sheet insulation covered by thisspecification is classified into the six types and two categoriesshown in Table 1. 31、andtype required. (WarningThe user is advised that the maxi-mum use temperature of the facings and adhesives may belower than the maximum use temperature of the insulation. Thespecifier shall ensure that sufficient insulation thickness isinstalled so none of the accessory items (facing and adhesive)

32、are exposed to temperatures above their maximum use tem-perature. Practice C 680 can be used to predict surface tem-peratures.)6.2.2 Typical Facings:6.2.2.1 Fiber glass nonreinforced mat.6.2.2.2 Laminated aluminum foil, reinforced fiber glassscrim, and natural Kraft paper generally known as FRK orFS

34、al (rock, slag, orglass) fiberboard is normally manufactured with the fiberessentially oriented parallel with the face or a facing. Fiberdirection described in this specification is substantially perpen-dicular to a facing. This construction aligns mineral fiberboardin a way that one end of the cut

35、fiber is adhered to a facing. Thefinished product is wound into rolls or cut into sheets.7. Physical Properties7.1 The perpendicularly oriented mineral fiber roll and sheetthermal insulation shall conform to the following requirementsin Table 1: maximum use temperature, maximum apparentthermal condu

36、ctivity, minimum compressive resistance, watervapor sorption, maximum design density, and maximum indi-ces for surface burning characteristics.7.2 Corrosiveness to SteelWhen tested in accordance with11.6, the corrosion resulting from the insulation in contact withsteel plates shall be judged to be n

37、o greater than for compara-tive plates in contact with sterile cotton. (WarningThere arefacing adhesives that can cause corrosion to steel when they arein contact with water or water vapor and the steel. Currently,there is no test method available to satisfy every potentialcorrosion application.)7.3

38、 Stress Corrosion to Austenitic Stainless SteelWhenspecified, shall be tested and evaluated in accordance with11.9.7.4 Non-fibrous Content (Shot)The average maximumshot content of rock and slag mineral fiber products shall notexceed 30 % by weight in accordance with 11.3.1. Non-fibrouscontent is not

39、 applicable to glass mineral fiber products.7.5 Maximum Use TemperatureWhen tested in accor-dance with 11.1, the insulation with facing shall not warp,flame, or glow during hot surface exposure. No evidence ofmelting or fiber degradation shall be evident upon posttestinspection.7.6 Maximum Exothermi

40、c Temperature RiseWhen testedin accordance with 11.1, the midpoint temperature shall not atany point in time exceed the hot surface temperature by morethan 200F (111C). The 200F criterion applies during heat upas well as steady state conditions. Exceeding this limit shallconstitute noncompliance to

41、this specification andrejection.(WarningOrganic binders, adhesives, and somefacings may thermally decompose at high temperatures causingan exothermic temperature rise to occur. A double-layeredinstallation of perpendicularly oriented mineral fiber insulationand facing on surfaces hotter than 450F (2

42、32C) may increasethe possibility of internal exothermic temperature rise and maydestroy the fiber.)7.7 Compressive ResistanceShall be tested in accordancewith 11.8.NOTE 1At conditions above 450F (232C) hot surface temperatures,the compressive resistance of the installed insulation material maydecrea

43、se. Contact the manufacturer for reduced compression resistances atmaximum temperature conditions.8. 46、9. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The insulation shall have good workmanship and shallnot have defects which adversely affect its installation andperformance qualities.10. Sampling10.1 Inspection and qualification of the insulation shall be inaccordance with Criteria C 390. Other provisions f

47、or samplingcan be agreed upon between the purchaser, supplier, and themanufacturer.11. Test Methods11.1 Maximum Use and Exothermic Rise TemperatureTest in accordance with Test Method C411and the hot surfaceperformance section of Practice C 447 at the manufacturersmaximum recommended thickness for ea

48、ch temperature. Thetest surface shall be at the intended surface temperature whenthe test begins.11.1.1 No special requirements for heat-up shall be speci-fied by the manufacturer to comply with either maximum useC 1393 00a (2006)3or maximum exothermic temperature claims at the manufac-turers maximu
