、Designation: C 1483 04Standard Specification forExterior Solar Radiation Control Coatings on Buildings1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 1483; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last rev

、ision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 The purpose of this specification is to provide generalrequirements for products used to reduce thermal loads onbuildings by

、reflecting solar radiation from roofs and walls.Radiation control coating (RCC) is a liquid applied coatinghaving a solar reflectance of 0.8 and an ambient temperatureinfrared emittance of at least 0.8.1.2 This specification covers the physical and mechanicalproperties of liquid-applied radiation co

、ntrol coatings (RCCs)designed for exterior application on buildings or other struc-tures, where ambient air temperatures range form -34 to 54C(-30 to 130F). The specification also includes the testingprocedures by which the acceptability of the material may bedetermined.1.3 The products that comply

、with this specification may beused for other applications and have other properties notcovered by this specification. In such cases, it is advisable tocheck other specifications that address the applications ofinterest.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any,

、associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsTerminology C 168 and E 349 shall applyto this specification.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 radiation control coating (RCC), na radiation con-trol coating is a material that is designed to have a high solarreflectance (above 0.8) and a hi

、gh infrared emittance (above0.8) for long wavelength radiation.3.2.2 solar reflectance, nsolar reflectance is the fractionof incident solar radiation that is reflected.4. Significance and Use4.1 It is recognized that the solar reflectance of RCCs willbe reduced by soiling, which is caused by the acc

、umulation ofdirt, dust and other contaminants on the surface. The soiling, onthe roof, will differ from location to location and fromenvironment to environment. It is possible that soiling rates areaffected by the slope of the surface, the roughness of thesurface, the characteristics of the dust in

Low slopes, rough surfaces, dusty airand persistent moisture and conditions of high humidity are allconducive to soiling. At this time there are insufficient obser-vations

Nor haveany test procedures been developed to determine the ease withwhich the RCCs can be cleaned and the degree to which thesolar reflectance can be restored. It is suggested that users

、examine the potential for soiling at the application site anddetermine if the cleaning methods suggested by the manufac-turer are likely to be adequate to maintain solar reflectance atan acceptable level, for the type of soiling expected5.
