Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions relating to gypsum andrelated building materials and systems, use Terminology C11.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 bearing surface (of the screw), nthe supporting orlocating surface of a

10、 fastener with respect to the part which itfastens (mates). The loading of the fastener is usually throughthe bearing surface, (that is, the bearing surface of the hexwasher head style is under the head, the part that touches thetop material being fastened).3.2.2 case depth (of the screw), nthe thic

11、kness of thehardened surface of the screw.3.2.3 countersunk head style (for a screw), nall screwhead designs that sink into the top material being fastened andthat have the bearing surface (see 3.2.1), at the top of the head(that is, flat and bugle).3.2.4 crest (of the screw thread), nthe highest po

Physical Properties6.1 Dimensions:6.1.1 Self-drilling tapping screws shall be in accordancewith SAE J78.6.1.2 Sel

24、f-piercing tapping screws shall be in accordancewith head dimensions as shown in ANSI/ASME B18.6.4.6.2 Total Case DepthScrews shall have a total case depthconforming to the tabulation in Table 1.6.2.1 Case depth shall be measured at the mid-point be-tween crest and root on the thread shank.7. Packag

25、ing and Head Marking7.1 Screws shall be marked with manufacturers/suppliershead marking for traceability.7.2 Screws shall be packaged in substantial commercialshipping containers, constructed so as to preserve the contentsin good condition and to ensure acceptance and safe deliveryby common or other

26、 carriers.7.2.1 Individual packages shall be so constructed that thecontents shall be able to be partially removed without destroy-ing the containers ability to serve as a receptacle for theremainder of the contents.7.2.2 Individual packages and shipping containers shall bemarked with the type, size

27、, use, and quantity of the screwscontained therein, the name brand headmarking example andtrademark of the producer or supplier, the ASTM designation,and any or all appropriate evaluation reports . Boxes shall bemarked with the drill capacity of the self-drilling tappingscrews.8. Performance Require

28、ments8.1 Hardness:8.1.1 The self-drilling tapping screws shall have a surfacehardness of not less than Rockwell C50 and core hardness ofnot less than Rockwell C32 as tested in accordance with SAEJ78.8.1.2 The self-piercing screws shall have a surface hardnessof not less than Rockwell C45 and core ha

29、rdness of not lessthan Rockwell C28 as tested in accordance with SAE J933.8.2 Ductility:8.2.1 The self-drilling tapping screws shall have sufficientductility to be able to withstand a 5 bend without visible signsof fracture as tested in accordance with SAE J78.FIG. 1 Head StylesTABLE 1 Total Case De

31、blesigns of fracture as tested in accordance with ANSI/ASMEB18.6.4.8.3 Torsional Strength:8.3.1 Self-drilling tapping screws shall not fail the applica-tion of torque less than or equal to the torsional strengthspecified in Table 2, when tested in accordance with SAE J78.8.3.2 Self-piercing tapping

32、screws shall not fail with theapplication of torque less than the torsional strength specifiedin Table 3, as tested in accordance with ANSI/ASME B18.6.4,Section 2.9.1.2, for tapping screws.8.4 Drill Drive Performance Requirement:8.4.1 Self-drilling tapping screws shall not fail the drill-drive test

33、requirements as noted in SAE J78 and shown inTable 4.8.4.2 Self-drilling tapping screws shall be tested in accor-dance with SAE J78 as shown in Fig. 2.8.5 Self-Drilling Tapping Screw Drill Capacity:8.5.1 Screws shall be able to self-drill and thread intocold-formed steel thicknesses without breaking

34、 or stripping asspecified by each specific manufacturers published recom-mendations. Manufacturers shall provide a min-max recom-mendation with the drill capacity of each self-drilling pointstyle screw.9. Finish and Appearance9.1 The threads shall be clean, smooth, and neatly formed.9.2 Each fastene

35、r shall have manufacturers/suppliers headmarking for traceability.9.3 Screws shall have a corrosion-resistant treatment. Thefinish shall not inhibit adhesion to finishing materials nor bleedthrough field-applied decoration. The screws shall meet aminimum requirement as listed in Specification F1941

36、as testedin accordance with Practice B117.10. Sampling10.1 . Sampling for all tests, except those in Section 13,shall be in accordance with Practice F1470.11. Test Methods11.1 Screws shall be tested per SAE J78 Table number 4,Section 8.4, to determine the ability of the screws to self-drillthrough c

37、old-formed steel without spinout, thread deformation,or breaking.11.2 Significance and Use:11.2.1 The test methods provide procedures for evaluatingthe physical properties and performance requirements of steeldrill screws.12. Test Materials12.1 Materials:12.1.1 Screw fasteners used in the tests shal

38、l be of standardmanufacturer and representative of the product for whichrecognition is sought. Fastenersshall meet the minimum and quality requirements for tappingscrews in accordance withANSI/ASME B18.6.4,ANSI/ASMEB18.18, and Practice F1470, or the pertinent standard, which-ever is more restrictive. Compliance is determined by testr

45、eports submitted by a qualified testing laboratory.12.1.2 Sheet SteelSteel description, including materialspecification, yield strength, and minimum uncoated steelthickness noted.12.2 Sharp point screws shall be tested using 33 mil (0.84mm) steel.12.3 Drill point screws shall be tested using 54 mil

46、(1.37mm) steel.13. Specimen Preparation13.1 Where the number of steel coupon specimens is notnoted in the specific standard, a minimum of three steel couponspecimens shall be tested to show compliance with the appro-priate standard and to determine the minimum uncoated steelthickness and strengths.

47、Steel tension test shall be performed inaccordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370.13.2 Screw FastenersA minimum of three test specimensare to be tested for tension (pull-out) and for the lap shearconnection. If the result from any one test is more than 15 %higher or lower than the other two,

48、 the lowest test value is used,unless an additional three tests are performed. Then use theaverage results of all six tests, regardless of the variation.14. Procedure14.1 If any of the first lot on the drill-drive testing fails, testanother lot. If two of that lot fail, the entire lot fails.15. Dime
