3、lexible unfaced foam sheet, used toinsulate interior surfaces of HVAC ducts, plenums and equip-ment used for the distribution of conditioned air with atemperature of up to 250F (121C).1.2 HVAC ducts, plenums and equipment systems typicallyoperate between a temperature range of 50F to 150F (10C to65C

4、) and are designed to meet building code requirements ofmaximum temperatures of 250F (121C).1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered st

18、ls.4. Classification4.1 The flexible polymeric insulations of this specificationare classified into Types I and II. Type I is a closed flexiblefoam. Type II is an open cell flexible foam.NOTE 1The primary difference between Type I and Type II materialsare: Type I materials exhibit lower water absorp

19、tion properties and TypeII materials have greater acoustical properties as noted in Tables 1 and 2.5. Materials5.1 These products shall be made of a homogeneous blendof natural or synthetic polymeric materials. Modifications withvarious thermoplastic or thermosetting resins, plasticizers,modifiers,

20、antioxidants, curatives, blowing agents and otheradditives are allowed. These products do not melt whenexposed to heat and are considered to be thermoset materials.5.2 Flexible, polymeric cellular thermal insulations shall beof uniform core density. These insulation materials are avail-able with a s

21、mooth skin surface or coating on one or both sides,and they are to be considered homogeneous for the purposes ofdetermining thermal performance.6. Ordering Information6.1 Specific installation, insulation type, thickness, length,and width suited for the intended use shall be agreed upon bythe purcha

22、ser and supplier.7. Physical PropertiesSee Tables 1 and 2 for Summaryof Requirements7.1 Apparent Thermal ConductivityThe material shall betested for apparent thermal conductivity at 75F (24C) meantemperature in accordance with 12.1. The thermal conductivityfor the average of any four randomly select

23、ed samples, shallnot be more than 0.30 Btu-in./h-sq ftF (0.043 W/m-K) whentested in accordance with 12.1. See Table 1.NOTE 2Consult the local or state building codes for the minimuminstalled thermal resistance, R-value, required to be installed.7.2 Surface Burning CharacteristicsShall be in accor-da

24、nce with 12.2. See Table 1 for requirements.7.3 Hot Surface PerformanceThe insulation shall have noevidence of flaming, glowing, smoldering, visible smoke,delamination, cracking, warpage, melting, dripping or reduc-tion in thickness when tested in accordance with 12.3 at thetemperature specified in

25、Table 1.NOTE 3Hot Surface Performance Characteristics for Type 1MaterialWhen this type of material is used on hot applications, thematerials characteristics will change and should be considered whenselecting the material for an application. Heat will cause the elastomericinsulation to harden. As the

26、 temperature approaches the stated hightemperature limit, the process occurs faster. This hardening will notnegatively effect the thermal performance or water vapor transmissionproperties of the product. The hardening will be most noticeable closer tothe heat source. This effect is based on time and

27、 temperature.7.4 Water Vapor SorptionShall be tested in accordancewith 12.4. See Table 1.7.5 Water AbsorptionShall be tested in accordance with12.5. See Table 1.7.6 Dimensional StabilityShall be tested in accordancewith 12.6.7.7 Odor EmissionThere shall be no detectable odor ofobjectionable nature w

Qualification and Inspection Requirements8.1 Qualification RequirementsThe following require-ments shall be used

34、for purposes of initial material qualifica-tion:8.1.1 Apparent thermal conductivity,8.1.2 Surface burning characteristics,8.1.3 Hot surface performance,8.1.4 Water vapor sorption,8.1.5 Water absorption,8.1.6 Odor emission,8.1.7 Corrosiveness,8.1.8 Fungi resistance,8.1.9 Erosion resistance, and8.1.10

35、 Sound absorption coefficient.8.2 InspectionThe following requirements shall be usedfor purposes of acceptance sampling of lots or shipments ofqualified thermal insulation:8.2.1 Dimensional tolerances, and8.2.2 Workmanship.9. Dimensional Tolerances9.1 After conditioning for a minimum of 24 h at 70 6

36、 3F(21 6 1.6C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity, the insulationshall conform to the dimensional tolerances listed in Table 3.All dimensions shall be measured at the conditioning tempera-ture.10. Workmanship and Finish10.1 The insulation shall indicate good workmanship infabrication and shall not have

37、visible defects that adverselyeffect service performance.11. Sampling11.1 Sampling of the insulation shall be in accordance withPractice C390. Specific provisions for sampling shall be agreedupon between the purchaser and the supplier.12. Test Methods12.1 Apparent Thermal ConductivityTest in accorda

38、ncewith Test Method C177 or Test Method C518 or Test MethodC1114 at 75F (24C) mean temperature (see also PracticeC1045).12.2 Surface Burning CharacteristicsDetermine the sur-face burning characteristic for the material in accordance withTest Method E84. In Canada use Test Method CAN/ULC-S102. The re

39、sults shall be reported. See Section 1 of TestMethod E84 for information regarding the applicability of thistest method for use with cellular plastics and Practice E2231for specimen mounting methods.12.3 Hot Service PerformanceThe maximum hot surfacetemperature of the material shall be tested in acc

40、ordance withTest Method C411.12.4 Water Vapor SorptionTest the water sorption of thematerial in accordance with the Test Method C1104/C1104M.12.5 Water AbsorptionDetermine the amount of waterabsorption of the test specimen in accordance with TestMethod C209 (24 h immersion time).12.6 Dimensional Sta

41、bilityDetermine length, width andthickness change when tested in accordance with C356 afteraging 24 h at a minimum of 250F (125C) or the maximumuse temperature whichever is higher.12.7 Odor EmissionDetermine the odor emission in ac-cordance with Test Method C1304 except test at 200F (92C).12.8 Corro

42、sivenessThe corrosiveness of the material shallbe determined in accordance with the corrosiveness testmethod defined in Specification C665.12.9 Fungi/ResistanceThe fungi resistance of the materialshall be determined in accordance with Practice G21 and TestMethod C1338.12.10 Erosion ResistanceThe air

43、 erosion properties of thematerial shall be as determined in accordance with the erosionresistance test methods and requirements defined in Specifica-tion C1071. The air velocity for the test is dependent upon theuse of the product. The air velocity for the test shall be 2.5times the maximum rated v

47、chaseagreement.14. Rejection14.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirementsagreed upon in the purchasing agreement is subject to rejec-tion. Rejection shall be reported to the producer or supplierpromptly and in writing.15. Certification15.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract,

48、aproducers, suppliers, or independent third partys certificationshall be furnished to the purchaser indicating that the materialwas manufactured, sampled, tested, and inspected in accor-dance with this specification and has been found to meet therequirements. When specified in the purchase order or

49、contract,a report of test results shall be furnished.16. Product Marking16.1 The air stream surface of the liner shall be markedaccording to the purchasers requirements, for example: prod-uct name, thickness, manufacturer, surface burning character-istics and nominal R-value.17. Packaging and Package Marking17.1 PackagingUnless otherwise specified, the insulationshall be packaged in the manufacturers standard containers.17.2 Package MarkingThe markings shall be clear andlegible.
