Scope1.1 This classification covers refractory products consistingpredominantly of mullite (3Al2O32SiO2) crystals that areformed by either converting any o

3、f the sillimanite group ofminerals, or synthesizing from appropriate materials in a meltor sinter process.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not

7、ce and Use3.1 The mullite content of an alumina-silica refractorymaterial has an important influence on volume stability, load-bearing properties, and its satisfactory use in refractory appli-cations. This classification is considered useful for purchasespecifications and quality control.4. Basis of

8、 Classification4.1 The refractory products falling within the scope of thisclassification are classified by chemical and physical tests tomeet the following requirements:Alumina content, % 56 to 79Impurities,Amax, % 5Deformation,Bmax, % 5AImpurities refer to metal oxides other than those of aluminum

9、 and silicon.BWhen tested in accordance with 6.1.2.5. Test Specimens5.1 Testing for compliance with this classification shall beperformed on 9 by 412 by 212-in. (228 by 114 by 64-mm)rectangular brick as made, or on specimens of this size cutfrom larger shapes, utilizing existing plane surfaces as mu

10、ch aspossible.6. Test Methods6.1 The properties enumerated in this classification shall bedetermined in accordance with the following ASTM methods:6.1.1 Alumina ContentXRF and ICP.6.1.2 Load TestSchedule 6 of Table 1 in Test Method C16.6.1.3 Thermal Expansion and CreepTest Method C832.7. Retests7.1

11、Because of possible variables that may result fromsampling or an unsatisfactory reproducibility of tests bydifferent laboratories, the material may be resampled andretested at the request of either the manufacturer or thepurchaser. This could apply where the first test results may notconform to the

12、requirements prescribed in this classification.Therefore, the final results to be used shall be the average of atleast two series of tests, each of which has been obtained byfollowing the specified testing procedures in detail.8.
