When I was a very small boy just a few years old in the 50s, we used to have a race called Cross Harbour Swimming Contest and at that time whoever jump

16、ed off on Kowloon side and swam to Hong Kong side, and whoever finished crossing the harbour won the race. It was cancelled about two decades ago simply because the harbour was getting so dirty. Maybe not quite to the extent that Victor has so grimly and so vividly described just a few minutes ago,

17、but it was cancelled because the water was simply so unsafe that anybody who jumped into the water might not emerge on the other side. The people actually put in very intense efforts about a decade ago because we wanted to clean up our harbour. So, for many of you visitors to Hong Kong, I hope you h

18、ave a chance to enjoy one of the bargain tourist attractions of the world, which is to take a ride on the Star ferry going from Hong Kong to Kowloon and back, and you will find that the meaning of Hong Kong is a fragrant harbour and it doesnt stink any more. I do urge you to try that most popular an

19、d best bargain tourism destination in the world. The strong business participation in todays conference has demonstrated that sustainability is not a threat to business. It is also clear, from the track records of many businesses, that sustainability is not a gimmick nor is it a fad. To take the Hon

20、g Kong experience as an example: for at least a decade now, some of Hong Kongs most prominent and successful companies have been progressively taking on the idea of sustainability in their business plans and practices. It is also the private sector that has been behind and has funded two important i

21、nitiatives: the Business Environment Council; and the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Development in Asia. They promote sustainable development and responsible investment practices in this region. A number of well-established advocacy groups and think tanks have also successfully brought

22、 issues of environmentalism and sustainability into our publics minds. Sustainable business involves using resources in a responsible manner. It is being aware of long-term viability and not just short-term balance sheet profits; and, above all, transparency. In a market-driven economy, such as Hong

23、 Kongs, it is absolutely right that the private sector should play a leading role in promoting and adopting all these objectives. 26、eryone seems to have time to talk to me when I need help, which I really appreciate. Its just that by now, I feel I really should be getting up to speed. Only its a relatively new position and nobodys really spelt out what the exact scope of the job is or what my responsibilities and priorities shou

31、s sometimes a bit limited here. Its like theres a “thats what youre paid for“ type of attitude. M: Ive got very little to complain about really. I get on with the rest of the team and that kind of thing. But theres one thing thats been on my mind for a while now. I just feel that. Ive reached a stag

32、e where Im capable of dealing with a lot more responsibility than I do at present. I just dont feel stretched any more. I dont feel as though Im contributing as much as I could. Its almost as if Im on autopilot. Things are beginning to feel a bit stale. What I need is a bit of variety, something to

33、get my teeth into a challenge. F: Youre probably already aware that things arent functioning too smoothly in Production at the moment. I dont know what other people have said but personally I think its down to our procedures. Theres no formal system for putting our ideas forward and in the past sugg

What we need to do is to schedule regular meetings, which will improve the flow of information in both directions. M: What prompted you to quit Infosys or inspired you to take up a job in a start-up company? F: Working with Infos

44、ys, Indias best global services brand, was a tremendous experience. Since I had financial stability, I looked at empowerment and sought to work with an intellectual pool. I have also a desire to be part of the creation of a new industry. I found all these values in Quintant, and, moreover, I like th

45、e job profile that was offered to me. The team here has a lot of people who are absolutely top-notch in their chosen fields whether it be analytics, consulting, operations or straight-through-processing, and it is always a privilege to work with experts. M: How did you present this matter to the Inf

46、osys management? F: I met chief mentor N R Narayanamurthy and CEO, president and managing director Nandan Nilekani while leaving Infosys. In fact, they did not ask me anything, but encouraged me for career growth. Narayanamurthy asked me why I want to quit. I respect him a lot. I told him that I am

47、getting a good position and will lead the BSP concept and, moreover, I will create jobs in India. He is absolutely encouraging, and mentioned that the concept will work out and Quintant will definitely be a successful company.
