Id like to welcome you all tonight to

14、our celebration of 100 years in a confectionary business. Its a very proud occasion for us and we hope you enjoy the dinner. Naturally as shareholders in this particular sweet company, wed like you to be the first to taste our latest chocolate product, so that will be coming around with coffee in a

15、few minutes. If you havent got a sweet tooth, dont worry. We are also celebrating our centenary with a bonus for every share held by you. Id like to take this opportunity to bring you up to date with whats happening in our company at the moment. I know some of you have been a little worried over the

16、 recent state of trade. And, well, its true that there has been a 3% decline in sales over the last two years. I can reassure you that the future looks bright. I can confidently say that with our present business strategy, we will enjoy a 10% net profit growth in earnings per share over the next few

17、 years. Of course, as Im sure you are aware, all our major competitors are huge multinationals, and naturally they have very deep pockets, so to speak. And they also deal in diverse product ranges. However, we are still the only premium priced specialist to reach an international status as an indepe

18、ndent company, which is a marvelous achievement and we are very proud of this. Some of you here tonight perhaps dont know the background to our company. Well, we started out 100 years ago as a family business and our focus has always been on a high-quality confectionary. Last year saw an exciting de

19、velopment when the company underwent a total restructuring and changed into an international corporation. This involved bringing in a new management team. And with their help, weve planned a three-pronged attack for the next decade. Firstly, we will be setting an ambitious sales target, which we are

20、 confident we can reach. Secondly, time may change, but our guarantee of high quality doesnt. And so we will remain faithful to our premium pricing policy and resist all temptation to give discounts purely for short-term gains. That wouldnt lead us anywhere. Thirdly, promotion is the key for the fut

21、ure. And were planning an increased investment in TV advertising. We are now looking outwards, towards the developing markets of Eastern Europe. And you can expect a good return for your investment with us. We mustnt forget that close to home the tourist industry accounts for a high proportion of sa

22、les, and so we will also be concentrating on building up even more business in this sector of the market. Personally, I think we should have a vote and get all the shareholders involved before any new factories are built. Its all very well diversifying into new areas, but it involves a huge investment: and getting bigger

25、 doesnt always bring proportionate rewards. Everybody else seems to think that going over the final details is very boring. so weve ended up making these decisions without any proper research. I am not very pleased about some of the agreements weve reached. Certain matters dont seem to have been loo

26、ked into properly at all. Woman: Well, Im relieved thats over. It was so awkward when the previous person was so popular. But the vote was pretty unanimous. Thats encouraging as its always better to have a leader whom everyone supports. I think Mike was very successful because I felt so apprehensive

27、. Its difficult when you have to try to persuade everyone, but I was the logical person to propose him. I shouldnt have been worried because it was just a question of standing up and explaining why. Anyway, hes got a lot of new ideas, so hopefully he will be a success: and I will be associated with

28、it. Man: Im not sure its realistic to expect us to achieve those sorts of figures. I mean it doesnt belong to the market all that long and it can take ages for this sort of products to get established. Bill really doesnt understand the problems. And I always seem to end up arguing with him. He got a

29、nnoyed, as usual, but it was being unrealistic about whats possible. Ive managed to stay calm, but because of our enormous difference in opinion, no decisions have been made yet. Woman: Thats it. We finally decided to do it. The meeting went on for ages, and I dont think the new chairman was very ha

30、ppy, but its a majority decision. We proposed that the company will be floated on the market in June or July but we dont know what the price will be vet. Im sure its the right thing to do. Really we should have done it last year when the market was more buoyant. Gwent disagreed strongly with Mr. Lee

31、 about the date, but it was resolved in the end. I thought they never stopped arguing about it, but I completely support how it was settled in the end. Man: I think its a good plan. It has some problems in that area and it was good when Mrs. Laugh thought through and has come up with something innov

32、ative, yes, with something we never thought of before. I think everybody understood that was the direction we wanted to go in the future. I think it all went very well. We really got to make a thing. Now we all have got to go off and look what she has proposed so that we can come up with some ideas

Man: Right. And I believe thats not the only success of the year. Woman: No. Man: I mean yes, you are right. Woma

39、n: Weve also established in the line with Sunlines which Im delighted about. 26 Man: Eh, what does that mean for BellAir? Woman: Well, its not a vast change, but I think it will improve our image. The frequency of flight wont change, and to be honest, I doubt it will actually make any more money, bu

40、t it does give us great presences in the tourist sector where weve turned to be rather weak. 27 Man: Is this going to affect the cost of travel? Woman: Yes and no. Yes, because we brought internal domestic prices down by around 5%. No, because with the vast pressures of the market and the restrictio

41、ns we have to operate on, there is nothing we can realistically expect to do on the international front. Thats one of the downsides of competition ironically. Strategies like this have come out of the developments in our marketing division. 28 Woman: .We decided last year to go for growth in that di

42、vision under our very capable director of marketing Michael Escort. The alternative of doing internal growth would have been bringing in a new external consultancy, which I think would have been just a change for the second change. 29 Man: Um, how did you get into the airline business? Woman: I supp

43、ose you are expecting me to say that it was what I always dreamed of since I was a child, that sort of thing. No, basically I was just doing what I was always expected and what I always expected to do. My father and my mothers father were in business. Yes, the money is good, but thats not reason eno
