12、nvironment has a lot to do with it, along with the fact that children are constantly being exposed to the message society gives about the importance of being thin. Children raised in a dysfunctional family are at a higher risk for developing an eating disorder. In a home where physical or sexual abu

13、se is taking place, the child may turn to an eating disorder to gain a sense of control. If they cant control what is happening to their bodies during the abuse, they can control their food intake or their weight. Self imposed starvation may also be their way of trying to disappear so they no longer

14、 have to suffer through the abuse. Children may also develop eating disorders as a way of dealing with the many emotions that they feel, especially if they are raised in a home that does not allow feelings to be expressed. Children who are compulsive eaters are usually using food to help them deal w

15、ith feelings of anger, sadness, hurt, loneliness, abandonment, fear and pain. If children are not allowed to express their emotions, they may become emotional eaters. Also, if parents are too involved in their own problems, the child may turn to food for comfort. Children are at a risk for developin

16、g an eating disorder if the parents themselves are too preoccupied with appearance and weight. If the parents are constantly dieting and expressing dislike towards their own bodies, the child will receive the message that appearance is very important. In some families the parents mistake baby fat fo

17、r actual fat and may try to impose a diet on the child. Not only is that not right, its cruel. As parents you need to set a good example for your children, which means that you yourself should be involved in healthy eating patterns. Another thing to remember about children is that they eat when they

18、 are hungry and they stop when they are full. Never force a child to eat if they dont want to. Too many families still force children to remain at the table until they have eaten everything on their plate. Doing that could cause the child to hate meal times and develop an unhealthy attitude towards

Exercise is also an important part of everyones life and we need to help our children become involved in physical activity, which means the parents themselves should participate in healthy exercise. Help the child to find activities they enjoy and activities the whole family can enjoy. They sh

Now first, ah, have a look at the illustration showing some of the bodys organs. Now you should know most of these a

40、lready. When we think of organs we usually think of the heart, lungs and kidneys. But, of course, the eyes, ears and brain are also organs and there are many more. Organs are part of the body that do a special job. Now, a group of organs working together is called a system. There are 10 main systems

41、 in the human body and they all work together to keep the body going. Now lets have a quick look at these systems. Now first-the skeletal system. Thats the bones and the things that hold them together, that we call connective tissues. The skeletal system is the framework of the body. It gives the bo

42、dy its shape and form and it protects the heart, lungs and the brain. The muscle system has the role of moving the body. It also pushes food through the body and makes the blood circulate. Now you can see how these systems work together. The bones couldnt move without the muscles. And all the system

43、s are controlled by the nervous system. This is made up of the brain, tile spinal cord and the nerves. And this system controls all muscle movement. It also controls your senses and makes it possible for you to learn and remember things. Now some people say that the nervous system is the most import

44、ant system of all but that isnt really true because all the systems have to work together to keep us alive. They are all essential to life. So you cant really say that one is more important than another. Now, the digestive system. The stomach and the intestines are the main parts of this system. The

45、y have the job of processing food to provide energy for the body. Food is broken down to a simpler form so that it can be absorbed into the blood. The waste products are removed from the body through the rectum at the end of the intestines. The respiratory system consists of the windpipe and lungs a

46、nd it takes air into the body. It also sepa-ates out the oxygen needed to turn the food you eat into energy for the body. The lungs also get rid of the carbon dioxide, which is collected from the cells by the blood. The blood, the heart and ail the blood vessels form the circulatory system. Now this

47、 system carries the food and oxygen around the body. It also collects the waste from the cells and fights hacteria-germsin the body. The urinary system is made up of the kidneys and bladder. And this system filters certain wastes from the blood and removes them from the body as urine. Now can you se

48、e how all these systems are working together pouring things into the blood and filtering other things out of it-and keeping you alive? Next is the lymphatic system. Now you probably havent heard of this one and it% fairly hard to describe. Lymph is a clear liquid which comes from the blood. It leaves the blood vessels and moves throughout the body, picking up wastes as it gees-things that the body doesnt want. When it has done its job the lymph flows back into a large blood vessel near the neck. The wastes that it has picked up are then filtered out of the body through the blood. The end
