He sometimes invited me to the university guest lectures when they had special VIP guests, but I usually declined, thinking that it would be boring. When he found a job, it was with an inter

17、national company called 3M and he thought hed be able to get some good experience, but after about a year he found that it wasnt really suitable for him and he didnt really fit in. He thought that working for others made him lazy and just wanted more for himself. He has some unique ideas and I think

18、 hell do really well in the future. I still admire him a lot and I hold him as my example of what people can be at their best. 2 The person I want to describe for you today is someone very close to my heart who Ive known for years me! I am actually in the process of starting it now, but we havent fi

19、nished off the legal procedures yet. Im doing it with one of my teachers from university that has taught me English and IELTS this past year. He had an idea to help us with lots of little videos and to publish information about the exam online. I thought that it was a great idea and offered him some

20、 suggestions and put the idea in his head about making it a business rather than simply giving all this precious information away for free. As for why we decided to start this together, it is that he has the expertise, you know, the knowledge about English as hes an Englishman and I have knowledge o

21、f the Chinese education system. This is partly due to my father being a manager at the Ministry of Education and my mother being a vice chancellor at a university. In answer, to the last question, well, I think its fairly obvious. Im hoping that out partnership is fruitful for both of us, and I thin

22、k if we put our heads together there is no reason why it shouldnt be. With a little bit of help and a little bit of luck, you never know, you might be seeing us on WeiBo or maybe even on TV. But actually, I think teachers are best. When I was in high school, my head teacher always talked to me about my study

27、and job for the future. She knows everything about my study life, such as styles, suitable ways of study and so on, even my character and attitude. But money isnt always the most important thing, because if you get a job which earns much money but actually you dont like it, you will feel bored and bad soon. So in my opinion

30、, I think the most important thing is your interest and whether it suits you. 2 Most definitely. If people cant, or dont, make enough money they will not have a good future. For example, they wont be able to buy a house, or a car, or even pay for their childs education. So, I think its absolutely cr

31、ucial that money is at the forefront of any decision about a job or career. 4. Do you agree that many people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours and take less holiday? 1 I would say, yes. You know, my country is China and has the largest population on the planet so there is immense comp

32、etition for each job, or position in a company. If you dont excel and have a good education there are always 1,000 people behind you that do. A good work ethic is also necessary to keep the job and hard work and overtime is expected for exactly the same reason. 2 No, I dont agree with that at all. P

33、eople do it to themselves, its their own fault. It is vital that people have a good work-life balance and most of the time its the employees, you know, the workers, that put this out of whack rather than the managers. Money is sometimes glorified too much, and people occasionally forget whats really

34、 important. 5. What is the impact on society of people having a poor work-life balance? 1 I think that it would have a negative effect on society as well as the family unit, not to mention the individuals own health. If all they do is work, yes, the money might be great, but the happiness value will

35、 go through the floor which has been known to destroy marriages. This in turn can break up families and leave children in limbo, and as the future of any society is its children, that is disastrous. 2 The largest impacts would be on a persons physical and psychological health. Workers may have no ti

36、me to exercise, or even just get enough rest. They are often in a constant state of mental distress and self-given pressure in order to make ends meet and provide for their family. Overall, this is a fast downward spiral that easily gets out of control and is very hard to come back from. 6. Could yo

37、u recommend some effective strategies for governments and employers to ensure people have a good work-life balance? 1 I think that the government should implement a system where there are a fixed number of hours that a person can work, and if that member of staff exceeds this, then there is some kin

38、d of punishment for the company. I think that if you just offer people overtime at, say, double pay, then the people will take it rather than spend more time with their families. 2 Wow, you dont ask easy questions! Thinking about it, I suppose the government or the companies could introduce some rules or incentives to workers that dont exceed a certain number of working hours per week. You could also use the stick sometimes too and have fines for the managers if their staff work too much.
