Scope*1.1 This specification covers agricultural liming materials,such as quicklime

3、 (burnt lime), hydrated lime, limestone,(calcitic and dolomitic), marl, shells, and by-products includ-ing slag, and other materials.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 agricultural liming materiala produ

7、ct whose cal-cium and magnesium compounds are capable of neutralizingsoil acidity.3.1.2 air-cooled blast-furnace slag and granulated blast-furnace slag air-cooled blast-furnace slag and granulatedblast furnace slag as defined in Terminology C125.3.1.3 calcium carbonate equivalent (C.C.E.) the acid-n

Chemical Classifications4.1 Agricultural liming materials shall be classified in termsof calcium carbonate equivalent (C.C.E.), as shown in Table 1.NOTE 1Marl and some by-prod

9、uct liming materials are used forneutralizing soil acidity, but due to their varying composition, theirchemical limits are not included. In some economic circumstanceslimestone, slag, and shells of less than 80 % C.C.E. may be used.5. Sieve Analysis Classifications for AgriculturalLimestone5.1 Agric

10、ultural limestone shall be classified according tothe minimum percentages passing the No. 8 (2.36-mm) andNo. 60 (250-m) sieves conforming to Specification E11,asshown in Table 2.NOTE 2These classifications apply where the agricultural limestone isobtained by the normal crushing procedure and the pro

11、duct contains thefines of fracture. In some economic circumstances, coarser products areused. The No. 60 (250-m) sieve was selected because research has shownthat this sieve gives a more accurate representation of the particle sizedistribution of most agricultural limestones presently produced than

12、a fineror coarser sieve. The No. 8 (2.36-mm) sieve is used to control the upperlimit on the amount of coarse limestone particles that may be in theproduct.6. Sieve Analysis Classifications for Agricultural Slag6.1 Air-Cooled Blast-Furnace SlagAir-cooled blast-furnace slag shall be classified the sam

13、e as agriculturallimestone as shown in Section 5.6.2 Granulated Blast-Furnace SlagGranulated blast-furnace slag shall be classified in accordance with the mini-mum percentages passing the No. 8 (2.36-mm) and the No. 60(250-m) sieves.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C07

Particle Size Requirements for Hydrated Lime andQuicklime7.1 Hydrated lime and quicklime for agricultural use shallbe classified in accordance with the minimum percentagespassing the No. 8 (2.36-mm) and No. 60 (250-m) si

Chemical Methods9.1 Reagent grade chemicals or equivalent and water purityshall be used as specified in Test Me

18、thods C25.9.2 The analytical sample for chemical methods relative tothis standard shall be pulverized to pass a 60 mesh sieve.9.3 The following chemical parameters are to be determinedusing the methods as specified.9.3.1 Calcium carbonate equivalent by the method in C25and9.3.2 Total calcium and mag

19、nesiumdetermination can bemade either by methods in C25, C1271 or C1301.SIEVE ANALYSIS OF AGRICULTURAL LIMINGMATERIALS10. Preparation of Sample10.1 Dry the sample to constant weight at 110 6 5Candstore in an airtight container. Obtain the sample from a largersample of the material to be tested by th

20、e use of a riffle or asample splitter in accordance with Practice D3176,orbythemethod of quartering. The sample for sieve analysis shall havea weight of 100 to 150 g.10.2 Where limestone contains clay, some agglomeration offine particles may occur. The agglomerates must be broken byrolling the dry s

21、ample with a hard rubber roller on a hardrubber mat or by some equally effective means that does notresult in crushing the limestone.11. Procedure11.1 Sieve analysis shall be conducted using the proceduresin Test Methods C110. Sieve the sample through No. 8(2.36-mm) and No. 60 (250-m) sieves. Determ

22、ine the weightof liming material passing each sieve on a scale or balancesensitive to at least 0.1 g. Calculate the amount of limingmaterial passing the sieves to the nearest whole percentage ofthe total weight of the dry sample.12. Report12.1 Report the following results for agricultural limingmate
