Chemical Classifications4.1 Agri
9、cultural liming materials shall be classified in termsof calcium carbonate equivalent (C.C.E.), as shown in Table 1.NOTE 1Marl and some by-product liming materials are used forneutralizing soil acidity, but due to their varying composition, theirchemical limits are not included. In some economic cir
10、cumstanceslimestone, lime kiln dust, slag, and shells of less than 80 % C.C.E. may beused.5. Sieve Analysis Classifications for AgriculturalLimestone5.1 Agricultural limestone shall be classified according tothe minimum percentages passing the 2.36-mm (No. 8) and250-m (No. 60) sieves conforming to S
11、pecification E11,asshown in Table 2.NOTE 2These classifications apply where the agricultural limestone isobtained by the normal crushing procedure and the product contains thefines of fracture. In some economic circumstances, coarser products areused. The 250-m (No. 60) sieve was selected because re
12、search has shownthat this sieve gives a more accurate representation of the particle sizedistribution of most agricultural limestones presently produced than a fineror coarser sieve. The 2.36-mm (No. 8) sieve is used to control the upperlimit on the amount of coarse limestone particles that may be i

Regulatory Requirements9.1 Agricultural liming materials shall be evaluated for theregulatory considerations using the required local, state, andfederal test methods in effect at the time of use.9.2 A
19、gricultural liming materials shall meet all applicablelocal, state, and federal requirements in effect at the time ofuse.10. Sampling10.1 Sampling shall be conducted using the proceduresspecified in Practice C50.11. Chemical Methods11.1 Reagent grade chemicals or equivalent and waterpurity shall be
20、used as specified in Test Methods C25.11.2 The analytical sample for chemical methods relative tothis standard shall be pulverized to pass a 60 mesh sieve.11.3 The following chemical parameters are to be deter-mined using the methods as specified.11.3.1 Calcium carbonate equivalent by the method in
21、C25and11.3.2 Total calcium and magnesium oxidedeterminationcan be made by methods in C25, C1271 or C1301.SIEVE ANALYSIS OF AGRICULTURAL LIMINGMATERIALS12. Preparation of Sample12.1 Dry the sample to constant weight at 110 6 5Candstore in an airtight container. Obtain the sample from a largersample o
22、f the material to be tested by the use of a riffle or asample splitter in accordance with Practice D3176,orbythemethod of quartering. The sample for sieve analysis shall havea weight of 100 to 150 g.12.2 Where limestone contains clay, some agglomeration offine particles may occur. The agglomerates m
23、ust be broken byrolling the dry sample with a hard rubber roller on a hardrubber mat or by some equally effective means that does notresult in crushing the limestone.13. Procedure13.1 Sieve analysis shall be conducted using the proceduresin Test Methods C110. Sieve the sample through 2.36-mm (No.8)
24、and 250-m (No. 60) sieves. Determine the weight of limingmaterial passing each sieve on a scale or balance sensitive to atleast 0.1 g. Calculate the amount of liming material passing thesieves to the nearest whole percentage of the total weight of thedry sample.14. Report14.1 Report the following re
