Scope1.1 This test method covers two

3、 laboratory procedures fordetermining the extrusion rate and application life (or “potlife”) of elastomeric chemically curing sealants for use inbuilding construction.NOTE 1These sealants are supplied with various rheological proper-ties ranging from pourable liquids to nonsagging pastes. Single-com

4、ponent sealants are supplied ready for use upon opening the container,and their rate of cure is determined by the climatic conditions to whichthey are exposed. Multicomponent sealants are supplied as a basecomponent and a curing agent separately packaged. After mixing the twoparts, the sealant is re

5、ady for application, and curing begins immediately.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are provided forinformation only.1.3 There is no known ISO equivalent to this test method.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesa

Significance and Use4.1 The results obtained by this test method are simply ameasure of the time required to extrude a known volume ofsealant through a known orifice under a predeterm

8、ined pres-sure.4.2 This test method is not considered a measure of curerate.5. Apparatus5.1 Caulking Gun, 177-mL (6-fl oz) capacity, air-powered.5.2 Polyethylene Cartridge, 177-mL (6-fl oz), with the frontend having an inside diameter of 13.7 6 0.05 mm (0.540 60.002 in.).5.3 Air Supply, providing 34

9、5 kPa (50-psi) pressure andhaving the necessary connection fittings for attachment to theair-powered caulking gun.5.4 Timing Device (clock or watch), calibrated in seconds.5.5 500-mL (1-pt) Container6. Standard Test Conditions6.1 Unless otherwise specified by those authorizing thetests, standard con

10、ditions for both tests are room temperatureof 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity.7. Procedure7.1 Extrusion Rate of Single-Component SealantFirstcondition the unopened container for at least 16 h at standardconditions. Then place a sufficient amount of sealant into the177-mL (6-fl o

11、z) cartridge to fill it completely with the plungerin place, fully retracted. Using no nozzle on the cartridge, gunthe sealant at 345 kPa (50-psi) pressure into the 500-mL (1-pt)container, measuring the time in seconds required to empty thecartridge.NOTE 2When the printed instructions of the sealant

12、 manufacturer sorecommended, heat the sealant before extruding it into the container.7.2 Extrusion Rate or Application Life or both, of MixedMulticomponent SealantFirst condition the unopened con-tainers of both sealant and curing agent for at least 16 h at1This test method is under the jurisdiction

Place a sufficient amount of the mixed compound intothe 177-mL (6-fl oz) cartridge to fill it completely with theplunger in place, fully retracted

16、, and set the filled cartridgeaside, in a vertical position, at standard conditions, for 3 h(Note 3). Then, using no nozzle on the cartridge, gun thesealant at 345 kPa (50-psi) pressure into the 500-mL (1-pt)container, measuring the time in seconds required to empty thecartridge.NOTE 3Curing times a

17、nd conditions for multi-component mixedcompounds may vary. Therefore curing periods of longer or shorter than3 h, and under other than the specified standard conditions, or either oneof these two may be specified in some cases.8. Report8.1 The report on the extrusion rate of the single-componentseal

18、ant shall state:8.1.1 The trade name (or other identification) of the sealant.8.1.2 The time, in seconds, required to empty the cartridge(the extrusion rate), and8.1.3 Any variation, specified or otherwise, from the abovedescribed test method, including heating of the sealant if sorequired.8.2 The r

19、eport on the extrusion rate or application life, orboth, of the multicomponent sealant shall state:8.2.1 The trade name (or other identification) of the sealant,8.2.2 The time, in seconds, required to empty the cartridgeafter the 3-h (or other specified) curing period, and8.2.3 Any variations, speci

20、fied or otherwise, from the abovedescribed test method, including the length of curing periodand the conditions of temperature and humidity during thisperiod.9. Precision and Bias39.1 The precision and bias calculations for this test methodare based on the results of four laboratories testing fivema

21、terials, each in triplicate. The results are given in Table 1.10.
