Scope1.1 This specification defines the chemical and physicalrequirements for boron carbide powder intended for a varietyof nuclear applicati
3、ons. Because each application has a differ-ent need for impurity and boron requirements, three differentchemical compositions of powder are specified. In using thisspecification, it is necessary to dictate which type of powder isintended to be used. In general, the intended applications forthe vario

United States15.1 The material shall conform to the chemical compositionrequirements prescribed in Table 1 (see Methods C791).5.2 When agreed upon between the buyer and the seller, theweight loss of the powder shall not exceed 1 % when heated at110C for1hinair.6. Physical Re
16、quirements6.1 The nominal particle size, particle size range, andapplicable tolerances shall be agreed upon between the buyerand the seller. Method C371 and E11 shall be applied forparticles larger than or equal to 75 m. For particles smallerthan 75 m, the particle size distribution shall be determi
17、ned bymethod B822.6.2 The density shall be determined when specified. TheTap-density (Test Method B527) or Skeletal Density (TestMethod B923) are approved methods. The recommended valueto be used for the theoretical density of stoichiometric B4Cofnatural isotopic content is 2.52 g/cm2.6.3 When speci
18、fied, the angular or spherical shape shall bedetermined utilizing a method agreed upon between the buyerand the seller.6.4 When specified, the shape factor shall be determinedutilizing a method agreed upon between the buyer and theseller.7. Cleanliness7.1 The lot shall be handled in a manner that pr
19、ecludescontamination by dust, organics, plastics, or other foreignmaterials.8. Sampling8.1 Sampling plans to meet acceptance criteria and inspec-tion and measurement procedures that describe the method ofcompliance with this specification shall be established by theseller and submitted to the buyer
20、for approval. The degree ofsampling, where not specified in this specification, varies withthe application and for this reason should be specified in thepurchase order. Recommended Practice E105 is referenced asa guide.8.2 Each sample taken shall be sufficient to perform thefollowing in the event th
21、ey are necessary or desired by thebuyer:8.2.1 Quality control tests,8.2.2 Acceptance tests,8.2.3 Referee tests, and8.2.4 Retention of archive samples by the seller.8.3 Archive samples shall be retained by the seller for aperiod of time specified by the buyer and delivered to the buyerupon request.9.
22、 Inspection and Certification9.1 The seller shall inspect the material covered by thisspecification and shall furnish the buyer with certificates oftests showing the results of testing and inspection performedfor each powder lot prior to shipment. The seller shall certifythat each powder lot is in c
23、ompliance with the provisions ofthis specification.10. Rejection10.1 Unless the buyer and seller agree otherwise, rejectionand acceptance shall be on a powder lot basis.10.2 Powder lots that fail to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected by the buyer. The seller maypetition
24、 the buyer to waive selected requirements for identifiedout-of-specification lots. Decision to grant such waiver belongsto the buyer. The buyer shall approve, prior to use, any remedyproposed to bring rejected lots into specification.10.3 In the event of disagreement over the results ofchemical anal
25、ysis, samples shall be submitted to a mutuallyselected referee for resolution.11. Packaging and Package Marking11.1 The powder shall be packaged in sealed containers forshipment from the seller to the buyer. The seller will beresponsible for designing the shipping container to ensurecleanliness, min
26、imize moisture pickup, provide adequate pro-tection against damage during transportation, and ensure rea-sonable ease of unpackaging.11.2 Each container shall be clearly marked with the fol-lowing: boron carbide powder, powder type (1, 2, or 3),purchase order number, purchase order specification, gr
27、oss netand tare weights, lot number, and name of seller.12. Quality Assurance12.1 Quality assurance requirements shall be agreed uponbetween the buyer and the seller when specified in the purchaseorder.
