Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of as

No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, as

It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use. Significance and Use5.1 This test method is designed to aid in identifying typesof coolants. While the ash is pri

Procedure7.1 Ignite the crucible and cover over a Meker burner for 5min and allow to cool to room temperature in a desiccator; thenweigh to the nearest 0.1 mg. Record the weight of the sample tothe nearest 0.1 mg.NOTE 1The weight of sample taken is suitable for most commercialproducts. If the

Raise the temperature by any convenient meansuntil the liquid is evaporated. If the sample ignites, remove theheat so

All precautions consistent with good laboratory prac-tice should be followed.) (WarningAvoid inhalation of thefumes.)7.4 Whe

If a muffle furnace is used, proceedas specified in 7.1 through 7.3, and then complete the proce-dure as follows: When the crucible appears dry, place thecrucible and cover, with contents, in

17、 a muffle furnace. (Toprevent losses from spattering due to rapid burning or volatil-ization of constituents, the muffle furnace shall be below 200Cwhen this transfer is made.) Raise the temperature at themaximum rate to between 750 and 900C and ignite for1hatthis temperature. Place the crucible and

When they have cooled to room tempera-ture, weigh the crucible, cover, and contents (ash) to the nearest0.1 mg.7.6 Repeat the ignition and cooling until constant weight isobtained.8.
