1、Designation: D1765 10Standard Classification System forCarbon Blacks Used in Rubber Products1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D1765; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A nu

2、mber in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This classification system covers the classification ofr

3、ubber-grade carbon blacks by the use of a four-characternomenclature system. The first character gives some indicationof the influence of the carbon black on the rate of cure of atypical rubber compound containing the black. The secondcharacter gives information on the average surface area of thecar

The last two characters are assigned arbitrarily.1.2 All rubber-grade carbon blacks for which a number iscurrently assigned at the time of publication of this classifica-tion system are listed in Table 1 together with some of theirtypical properties. ASTM classification numbers (“N” or “S

The use of inactive or unassignedN or S designations is prohibited until such a time as thedesignation is officially reactivated or assigned by Subcommit-tee D24.411.3 The values stated in SI units are to be

9、tal and ExternalSurface Area by Nitrogen Adsorption3. Basis of Classification3.1 The first character in the nomenclature system forrubber-grade carbon blacks is a letter indicating the effect ofthe carbon black on the cure rate of a typical rubber compoundcontaining the black. The letter “N” is used

10、 to indicate a normalcuring rate typical of furnace blacks that have received nospecial modification to alter their influence on the rate of cureof rubber. The letter “S” is used for channel blacks or forfurnace blacks that have been modified to effectively reducethe curing rate of rubber. Channel b

11、lacks characteristicallyimpart a slower rate of cure to rubber compounds. Thus, theletter “S” designates a slow cure rate. Blacks may varyconsiderably in “curing rate” within each of the two letterclassifications.3.2 The second character in the system is a digit to designatethe average surface area

12、of the carbon black as measured bynitrogen surface area. The surface area range of the carbonblacks has been divided into ten arbitrary groups, and each hasbeen assigned a digit to describe that group. These groups areas follows:Group No.Average NitrogenSurface Area, m2/g0 1501 121 to 1502 100 to 12
