6、ioned at 37.8C (100F) inorder to simulate service aging. This method utilizes theGardner straight-line washability apparatus as a means forcontrolled removal of the dried films. A heavily weighted padis employed as a means of arriving at a scrubbing force similarto that of hand scrubbing. In order t
7、o distinguish between therelative removal properties of different polishes, the number ofoscillations required for complete removal is taken as ameasure of removability.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method is used to predict removability of floorpolish after a treatment period that simulates
8、aging in the field.It allows for uniform mechanical and detergent action leavingthe only variable the actual removability of the polish.5. Rinse thoroughly withwater and dry at room temperature.8.2 Polish ApplicationProceed in accordance withMethod D of Methods D1436. Apply in
18、duplicate as shown inFig. 1 0.8 mL of test polish, A to 51 by 203-mm (2 by 8-in.)section of OTVAT. Tile should be on a level bench top toensure uniform film thickness. Apply in similar fashion dupli-cate samples of a control test polish B. Repeat process for otherpolishes. Allow the coated panels to
19、 dry for 2 h at ambientconditions; then apply a second coat of polish in the samemanner as the first coat. Let coated panels dry1hatambientconditions.8.3 Accelerated Aging ConditionsStore the coated panelsin an oven maintained at a temperature of 37 6 1.1 C andcondition there for 48 h.8.4 Removabili
20、tyPlace the coated and conditioned panelon the plate of the washability apparatus in such a manner thatthe oscillating pad will travel at right angles to the longer sideof the dried polish film. Place a clean dummy panel on eitherside of the test panel to hold the latter panel in place and toprovide
21、 a uniform surface for the oscillating pad to travel upon.Soak the pad for at least 1 min in the stripper solution, insertpad assembly into the weighted (1-kg) boat, invert, and turn onthe motor for one cycle. Stop for 1 min. Restart motor. Keepthe pad wet by adding additional stripper solution drop
22、wiseonto the pad or into the coated panel. After 50 oscillations stopthe machine and remove and rinse the panel with water. Blotdry. If polish film remains, repeat the scrubbing for anadditional 50 oscillations and again examine the film afterrinsing and drying. Thereafter, if any film remains, repe
23、at theprocess of scrubbing, rinsing, and drying after each additional50 oscillations until complete removal is obtained or to amaximum of 200 total oscillations.9.
