Scope1.1 This practice covers the preparation of concrete blocksused for testing of joint and crack sealants

3、 for portland cementconcrete and asphaltic concrete pavements. There are numer-ous standard material specifications that use concrete blocksprepared according to this practice. Refer to the specificstandard material specification of interest to determine whichtests apply and refer to the test method

Significance and Use3.1 It is intended that this practice may be used by manu-facturers, users, and testing agencies. The use of this practiceestab

7、lishes a uniform procedure for preparing concrete blocksfor the testing of sealants. It is not intended to establish testprocedures or conditions of test which are associated with eachof the joint sealants.4. Standard Conditions4.1 The laboratory atmospheric conditions, hereinafter re-ferred to as s

8、tandard conditions, shall be in accordance withSpecification E 171, (23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F) and 50 % 65 % relative humidity).5. Concrete Block Preparation35.1 MaterialsThe aggregate shall conform to Specifica-tion C33, except as specified herein. The aggregate gradingshall be as shown in Table 1. The

9、 coarse aggregate shall consistof crushed limestone (plus 95 % CaCO3) having a waterabsorption of not more than 1.5 %. The fine aggregate shallconsist of crushed limestone and shall be manufactured fromthe same parent rock as the coarse aggregate.4The portlandcement shall conform to ASTM Specificati

10、on C 150, Type II.The concrete shall have a water-cement ratio of 0.49, a cementfactor of 335 6 30 kg/m3(6.0 6 0.5 bags of cement per cubicyard), and a slump of 63 6 13 mm (212 612 in.). The ratio offine aggregate to total aggregate shall be approximately 40 %by solid volume. The air content shall b

11、e 5.0 6 0.5 % and shallbe obtained by the addition to the batch of an air-entrainingagent such as a neutralized thermoplastic resin.5Prepare theconcrete in accordance with the procedure described in TestMethod C 192/C 192M.5.1.1 Alternate Block MaterialsAs an alternate to thematerials specified in 5

12、.1, the blocks may be prepared using aconcrete mixture which meets local requirements for concretepavements.
