Scope*1.1 This specification covers fittings and single and coex-truded acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) plastic drain,waste, and vent pipe (DWV) made to Schedule 40 iron pipesizes (IPS). Plastic which does not meet the material require-ments specified in Section 5 is exclude

4、d from single layer andall coextruded layers.1.2 Specification for fittings for use with pipe meeting therequirements of this specification are given in Annex A1.1.3 Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene plastic, which does notmeet the definition of virgin ABS plastic as given in 3.2.2,isexcluded, as perf

5、ormance of plastic other than those defined asvirgin was not determined. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions are in accordance with Termi-nology F 412, and abbreviations are in accordance with Ter-minology D 1600, unless otherwise specified. The abbreviationfor acrylonit

17、rile-butadiene-styrene is ABS.3.1.1 coextruded pipepipe consisting of two or moreconcentric layers of material bonded together in processing byany combination of temperature, pressure, grafting, crosslink-ing, or adhesion.3.1.2 coextrusiona process whereby two or more heatedor unheated plastic mater

18、ial streams forced through one ormore shaping orifice(s) become one continuously formedpiece.3.1.3 room temperaturea temperature in the range from68 to 85 6 3.6F (20 to 30 6 2C).3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 lota lot shall consist of all pipe of the same sizeproduced from

19、one extrusion line during one designated 24-hperiod.3.2.2 recycled plastica plastic prepared from discardedarticles that have been cleaned and reground.3.2.3 reprocessed plastica thermoplastic usually preparedfrom melt processed scrap or reject parts by a plasticsprocessor, or from nonstandard or no

20、nuniform virgin material.3.2.4 virgin ABS plasticplastic in the form of pellets,granules, powder, floc, or liquid that has not been subjected touse or processing other than that required for its initialmanufacture.4. Classification4.1 The requirements of this specification are intended toprovide pip

21、e suitable for the drainage and venting of sewageand certain other liquid wastes.NOTE 1Industrial waste disposal lines should be installed only withthe specific approval of the cognizant building code authority sincechemicals not commonly found in drains and sewers and temperatures inexcess of 180F

22、(82C) may be encountered.NOTE 2This specification does not include requirements for pipe andfittings intended to be used to vent combustion gases.5. Materials5.1 Material SpecificationVirgin black ABS plastic shallconform to the requirements prescribed in SpecificationD 3965 with a cell classificati

23、on of 4-2-2-2-2. The form of thematerial shall be as agreed upon between the seller and thepurchaser in accordance with Specification D 3965.5.2 The ABS plastic shall conform to the following require-ments:5.2.1 Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) PlasticPlastic containing polymers or blends of po

24、lymers shall containa minimum of 15 % acrylonitrile, 6 % butadiene, and 15 %styrene or substituted styrene, or both. ABS plastic shallcontain no more than 10 % of other monomeric or polymericcomponents plus other necessary compounding ingredients.5.3 Rework MaterialThe manufacturer shall use only hi

25、sown clean pipe or fitting rework material conforming withthese cell class requirements. The pipe or fittings producedshall meet all the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 GeneralThe pipe and fittings shall be homogeneousthroughout and free of visible cracks, holes, foreign inclus

26、ions,or other injurious defects. The pipe shall be as uniform ascommercially practicable in color, opacity, density, and otherphysical properties.6.1.1 The requirements in this section are intended only foruse as quality control tests, not as simulated service tests.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2

27、.1 Outside DiameterThe outside diameter and toler-ances shall meet the requirements of Table 1 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D 2122. The tolerance forout-of-roundness shall apply to pipe prior to shipment.6.2.2 Wall ThicknessThe wall thickness and tolerancesshall meet the requirements

28、of Table 2 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D 2122.6.2.3 LengthThe pipe shall be in either 10 or 20-ft (3.05or 6.1-m) lengths, unless otherwise specified. The allowabletolerance on length shall be +12 , 0 in. (+12, 0 mm).6.3 Performance Requirements:6.3.1 Pipe Stiffness The minimum pipe s

29、tiffness values at5 % deflection when measured in accordance with Test MethodD 2412, shall equal or exceed the values in Table 3. The rate ofcrosshead motion shall be 0.20 to 0.25 in./min (5.1 to 6.3mm/min). Three specimens shall be tested. If all three meet thisrequirement, the sample meets this re

30、quirement. If one or twofail, additional testing shall be conducted in accordance with6.3.1.1. 33、il tomeet the minimum requirement, the average pipe stiffness ofeleven specimens shall meet or exceed the minimum require-ment given in Table 3. The 99 % lower confidence limit (LCL)shall be within 15 % of the average value. The LCL shall becalculated using the Students “t” distribution, with N-1 de

34、-grees of freedom, where N is the number of specimens. Thecritical t value shall be used to at least three significant digits.Alternatively, if the LCLexceeds the minimum PS requirementin Table 3, but is not within 15 % of the average, the samplemeets the requirements of the Pipe Stiffness testing.

35、The elevenspecimens include the three tested under 6.3.1, and an addi-tional eight with rotation by 35, as specified in Test MethodD 2412, continuing throughout the remaining specimens.6.3.1.2 The LCL based on testing eleven specimens iscalculated as follows:LCL 5avg PS!2 $2.76std. dev.!/=N!% (1)whe

37、 testingconvenience. It should not be considered as a limitation with respect toin-use deflection. The engineer is responsible for establishing the accept-able deflection limit.NOTE 5The strength and load-carrying capabilities of plastic pipe aremeasured and reported as pipe stiffness, which is dete

38、rmined in accor-dance with Test Method D 2412. The term “crush strength” is notapplicable to plastic piping because the values obtained can be signifi-cantly different, depending on the bedding, loading, or testing techniqueused, and because the term derives from rigid pipe and refers to itsultimate

39、 strength at rupture.6.3.2 Pipe FlatteningThere shall be no evidence of rup-ture when pipe is deflected 40% of the initial inside diameterwhen tested in accordance with Test Method D 2412. The rateof head approach shall be 0.20 to 0.25 in./min (5.1 to 6.3mm/min). Three specimens shall be tested. All

40、 shall meet therequirements. Failure shall be a crack or break extendingentirely through the pipe wall visible to the unaided eye.6.3.3 Impact ResistanceThe minimum impact resistance,when tested at the time of manufacture, shall comply withTable 4. Test in accordance with Test Method D 2444 usingTup

41、 B and Holder B. Use a 30-lb (13.6 kg) tup for testing allpipe sizes.6.3.3.1 Test 10 specimens. When 9 or 10 specimens pass,accept the lot. When 2 or more specimens fail, test 10additional specimens. When 17 of 20 specimens tested pass,accept the lot. When 4 or more of 20 specimens fail, test 20addi

42、tional specimens. When 32 of 40 specimens pass, acceptthe lot. When 9 or more of 40 specimens fail, the lot does notmeet the requirements of this specification.6.3.3.2 Failure of the test specimen shall be shattering orany crack or break extending entirely through the pipe wall andvisible to the una

43、ided eye.6.4 Coextruded Pipe:6.4.1 Thickness of Outer LayerFor pipe produced by thecoextrusion process, that is, pipe containing two or moreconcentric layers, the outer layer shall be at least 0.020 in.(0.50 mm) thick and shall contain pigments or screening agentsto provide protection against UV rad

44、iation.6.4.2 BondFor pipe produced by the coextrusion process,that is, pipe containing two or more concentric layers, the bondbetween the layers shall be strong and uniform. It shall not bepossible to separate any two layers with a probe or point of aknife blade so that the layers separate cleanly s
