The abbreviation of polyethyleneplastic is PE.3.2 standard thermoplastic pipe dimension ratio (SDR)the
10、 ratio of pipe outside diameter to wall thickness. It iscalculated by dividing the average outside diameter of the pipeby the minimum wall thickness.4. Classification4.1 This specification covers polyethylene fittings of thesocket type made as specified in 5.1 and 5.24.1.1 Fittings covered by this s
11、pecification are normallymolded. In-line fittings such as couplings, unions, bushings,caps, nipples, etc., may be extruded or machined from extrudedstock. Special fittings such as transition fittings and tappingteets shall be assembled and fabricated in accordance withprocedures agreed upon between

18、MaterialClean rework material generatedfrom the fitting manufacturers own production may be used bythe same manufacturer, as long as the fittings producedconform to the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.1.1 Fittings, sockets, dimensions, and tolerances
19、 shall beas shown in Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3 when measured inaccordance with 8.4. For reducing fittings, socket and insidediameter minimums for the appropriate size shall apply.6.1.2 The maximum angular variation of any opening shallnot be more than 2 off the true centerline axis.6.1.3 The min
20、imum wall thickness of fittings shall be 125 %of the minimum wall thickness of the pipe with which they aredesigned to be joined. For reducing fittings, the smallest sizewall thickness shall be 125 % of the smallest pipe wall.6.2 System Pressure Test Requirements:6.2.1 Short-Term Rupture StrengthThe

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The manufacture of these fittings shall be in accordancewith good commercial practice so as to produce fittingsmeeting the requirements of this specification. Fittings shall behomogeneous throughout and free of cracks, holes, forei
36、gninclusions, or injurious defects. The fittings shall be as uniformas commercially practicable in color, opacity, density, andother physical properties.8. Test Methods8.1 ConditioningCondition the test specimens at 73.4 63.6F (23 6 2C) for 40 h minimum prior to test in accordancewith Procedure A of
37、 Methods D 618, for those tests whereconditioning is required and in all cases of disagreement.8.2 Test ConditionsConduct tests at the standard labora-tory temperature of 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C).8.3 SamplingSelect at random sufficient quantity of fit-tings from each lot of shipment and test to determi
38、ne that thebasic properties and dimensions are in conformance with thisspecification.NOTE 3For individual orders or specifications, only those tests andnumbers of tests specifically agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer need be conducted.8.4 DimensionsMeasure in accordance with Test
39、MethodD 2122.8.4.1 Maximum out-of-round tolerance on sockets appliesto the actual measured average inside diameter.NOTE 4ExampleIn the 1-in. IPS size, if the actual measuredaverage inside socket entrance diameter was 1.281 in. (32.54 mm) then theextreme measured diameters due to ovality can be 1.291
40、 in. (32.79 mm)maximum and 1.271 in. (32.28 mm) minimum when the out-of-roundtolerance is 60.010 in. (2.54 mm).8.5 Pressure Test:8.5.1 Prepare test assemblies in such a manner that each,whether individual fittings or groups of fittings, is a systemincorporating at least one length of pipe or tubing
41、and one ormore fittings in addition to end closures. Fuse all fittingsoutlets with the appropriate size pipe or tubing. One piece ofpipe in the system shall have a minimum length equal to fivepipe diameters.8.5.2 Short-Term Rupture TestThe test equipment, proce-dures, and failure definition shall be
42、 as specified in TestMethod D 1599. Increase the hydrostatic pressure at a uniformrate such that the specimen fails between 60 and 70 s from thestart of the test. Minimum failure pressures are shown in Table3.8.5.3 Sustained Pressure TestPrepare six fitting speci-mens as prescribed in 8.5.18.5.3.1 S
43、elect the test temperature and pressures from one ofthe test options in Table 5.8.5.3.2 Condition the test specimens at the selected optiontest temperature for not less than 6 h.8.5.3.3 Test the specimens with water, in accordance withTest Method D 1598 at the selected option of stress and hoursof t
44、esting.8.5.3.4 Pressurize the six specimens at the required pressure(610 psi, 669 kPa) and for the duration specified for the testoption selected from Table 5.8.5.3.5 Failure of the same fittings on any two of the sixspecimens tested shall constitute a failure of that particularfitting. Failure of a
45、 fitting in one of the six specimens is causefor retest of six additional specimens. Failure of the samefitting in the retest shall constitute failure of the test for thatfitting.9. Packaging and Package Marking9.1 Fittings shall be marked with the following:9.1.1 Manufacturers name or trademark,9.1
46、.2 Material designation (such as, PE 2406, or PE 3408),9.1.3 Fittings intended for the transport of potable watershall include the seal or mark of the laboratory making theevaluation for this purpose,9.1.4 Size, and9.1.5 This designation number, D 2683.9.2 Where the size of the fitting does not allo
47、w completemarking, identification marking may be omitted in the follow-ing sequence: size, designation number, material designation.9.3 All required markings shall be legible and so applied asto remain legible under normal handling and installationpractices. If indentation is used, it shall not redu
48、ce the wallthickness to less than the minimum value for the fittings, and itshould be demonstrated that these marks have no effect on thelong-term strength of the fittings. In addition to the above, thefittings shall bear an appropriate code number that will assureidentification on the fittings as t
49、o month of production and resinformulas used in the production of said fittings. The manufac-turer shall maintain such additional records as are necessary toconfirm identification of all coded fittings.10. Quality Assurance10.1 When the product is marked with this designation,D 2683, the manufacturer affirms that the product was manu-factured, inspected, sampled, and tested in accordance with thisspecification and has been found to meet the requirements ofthis specification.TABLE 5 Sustained Pressure Test OptionsTes
