Significance and Use4.1 This practice provides information on the recommendeduses and application temperatures for the various grades ofroad tar used in the construction and maintenan
10、ce of pave-ments.5. Recommended Uses5.1 The recommendations shown in Table 1 are for use onlyas a guide when using tar for pavement construction andmaintenance. Several grades of tar may be listed in the table forthe same general construction procedure. Selection of a par-ticular grade will depend u
11、pon local practice, equipmentavailability, traffic, and environmental conditions applicable tothe specific project being considered.6. Recommended Application Temperatures6.1 The temperature ranges listed in Table 1 for the severalroad tar grades show the minimum and maximum temperaturesthat will pr
12、ovide proper viscosity for application. In general,the lower application temperatures may be used when highertemperatures of aggregate and pavement surfaces prevail.Higher application temperatures are employed when the tar isto be mixed, or where dust or moisture films are encountered.It is good pra
13、ctice to apply tar at the lowest temperature thatwill provide the required spray pattern, viscosity, adhesion, andso forth.7.
