Scope1.1 This test method covers a single-stage procedure for thedetermination of total moisture less t

Materials subjected to thistest shall not be used in the determination of other testparameters. It is recognized that the conditions of the test canincrease the potential for signi
4、ficant oxidation effects on somecoals. If the oxidation potential is of concern, the use of thissingle-stage method shall involve prior agreement between theparties involved. This test method shall not be construed as thereferee standard test method for total moisture. For refereepurposes, users of
5、this test method are referred to Test MethodD3302 for moisture determination methods which are not assusceptible to oxidation effects.1.2 Statistical analysis of data from several sources indi-cates that at a 95% confidence level, there is statistically nosignificant difference between the mean valu
6、e of the resultsobtained by D2961 and D3302 (that is, no bias is detectedbetween the two methods at the 95% confidence level) formoisture levels between 1.4% and 15.8%. These two testmethods were not compared in this study for some ranks ofcoal including lignite and anthracite. (See 10.2.)1.3 The va

11、aratus6.1 Drying Pans, noncorrodible, stable at the temperatureused, and of such size that the sample can be spread to a depthof not more than 25 mm (1 in.).6.1.1 The pan size may be varied to suit the size of thesample and the oven. The height of the sides shall be no morethan 40 mm (112 in.) so th

Divide from the 2.36-mm(No. 8) sieve size subsample (Test Method D2013) a portionnot less than 125 g.7.2 That portion of the sample used for the mo
16、isturedetermination shall have a minimum weight of 125 g.8. Procedure8.1 Weigh the empty drying pan. Record the mass in gramsas W1. Transfer the sample from the sample container to thedrying pan. Distribute the sample uniformly over the pan. Donot exceed a depth of 25 mm (1 in.). Place the empty sam
17、plecontainer in the drying pan. Weigh the drying pan, coal sample,and empty sample container. Record the mass in grams as W3.8.2 Place the pan, sample, and empty sample container inthe oven at a temperature of 107 6 3C. Maintain the air flowto provide continuous introduction of air while ensuring th
18、atfine particles are not elutriated. Dry for 112 h, remove from theoven, and weigh immediately. Record the mass.8.3 Return to the oven for an additional12 h, remove, andweigh. Record the mass.
