Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.e1NOTEEditorial corrections were made to Section 3 in September 2005.1. Scope1.1 This practice provides gu

3、idelines to the manufacturerfor the selection of zippers to be used in garments andhousehold furnishings that have care labels. The use of thispractice will facilitate the selection of a zipper compatible withthe end-item requirements. In the absence of complete knowl-edge of end-item characteristic

Thereforefollowing initial selection, the chosen zipper should be testedin a prototype item to confirm its suitability. Zipper propertiesto be considered are those that may, following refurbishing, bethe ones like

General5.1 It is advisable that zippers be closed when items inwhich they are installed are being laundered or dry cleaned.6. Shrinkage6.1 Excessive differential shrinkage between the zipper andthe material into which it

11、is installed can impair item appear-ance and the functioning of the zipper. To avoid problems, zippers need to have compatible but not necessarily equalshrinkage to that of the fabric. The acceptable shrinkagedifferential may vary depending upon fabric weight and itemconstruction. The fabric weight,

For materials upto 0.27 kg/m2(8 oz/yd2), a differential shrinkage betweenzipper and fabric of approximatel

Zipper shrinkages ashigh as 4 % have been foun

Colorfastness7.1 Matching Textile MaterialWhen a zipper of matchingcolor to the textile material is to be installed

19、, colorfastness maynot be critical. For initial evaluation purposes, it may beassumed that any commonly accepted home or commercialwashing procedure will not cause objectionable zipper colorloss or staining of item in which installed.7.2 Contrasting Textile MaterialThe general colorfast-ness propert

If suchzippers are utilized in contrast-colored material, it is necessaryto include on the care label instructions to machine drypromptly following laundering and to avoid soaking, handwashing

21、, the use of low-water levels in laundering, and linedrying. To avoid such undesirable labeling, the zipper suppliershould be contacted and advised of the intended use so that azipper with suitable colorfastness properties will be furnishedfor installation in a contrast-colored, washable material. Ironing Deformation8.1 When zippers are to be used in items not requiringironing as a refurbishing procedure, there is no need for specialcare labeling.8.2 When zippers are to be used in items requiring ironing, the following must be observ
