3、their proficiency and ability toattain the required quality for application of specified coatingsto concrete surfaces including those in safety-related areas in anuclear facility.1.2 Variations or simplifications of the practice set forthherein may be appropriate for special coating work such asmain

It is not the intent of this practice to mandate asingular basis for all qualifications.1.3 Evaluation of the coating applicator being qualified inaccordance with this practice, shall be by qualified agents asspecified in 4.1. Terminology2.1 Definitions:2.1.1 coating applicator, nan individual who has workedin the painting trade sufficiently long enough to master the useof all applicable tools and the materials being applied.2.1.2 governing documents, ntechnical specifications,jobsite procedures, and reference docume
8、nts.2.1.3 qualifying agents, nthe designated representatives ofthe owner or of the coating organization, or both, who havesufficient experience in the practical application and evaluationof coating applied to concrete surfaces.3. Application of Coatings3.1 This practice requires the coating applicat
9、or to apply thespecified coating in conformance to the governing documentsto a test area similar to that detailed in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.Aphysical test area may be selected by the owner/representative.The test area shall simulate job conditions and acceptancecriteria shall be the specification require
10、ment.3.1.1 Ceiling SectionBeginning at the wall line, one 5 by5-ft (1.5 by 1.5-m) coating.3.1.2 Wall SectionBeginning at the floor line, one 5 by 5-ft(1.5 by 1.5-m) coating.3.1.3 Floor SectionBeginning at the wall line and con-necting with the wall section, one 5 by 5-ft (1.5 by 1.5-m)coating.3.2 Th
11、is practice requires the coating applicator perform theapplication using the proper technique and application equip-ment consistent with the governing documents.3.3 The surfaces of the concrete test area shall be preparedin accordance with the governing documents.3.4 The coating applicator shall dem
12、onstrate the ability toapply the specified coating to a uniform dry film thickness inaccordance with the governing documents, as evaluated by thequalifying agents.3.5 When desired by the owner, one of the test surfaces mayinclude embedded steel.3.6 If a coating system specified requires multiple coa
13、ts,treat each coat as a separate application, allowing a specifieddrying time before applying each succeeding coat.3.7 The coating applicator shall be provided with thefollowing:3.7.1 Information regarding the specified coatingmaterial(s), including wet and dry film thickness required, andall other

16、2 Coating materials properly mixed in accordance withthe governing documents and ready for application.3.7.3 The necessary equipment for the proper application ofthe specified coating.3.7.4 Miscellaneous equipment, brushes, and thinners re-quired for cleaning the equipment after completion of the te
17、st.3.7.5 A practice area to adjust and test the equipment priorto performing the test.3.7.6 All necessary safety equipment.3.7.7 Wet-film thickness gage for verifying the coatingthickness during application.3.8 The coating applicator shall use the wet-film thicknessgage furnished to determine coatin
18、g thickness buildup duringapplication. Material thickness is one of the criteria forevaluation.4. Evaluation of Coating Application4.1 Evaluation of the coating applicator shall be made bytwo qualifying agents. Only one qualifying agent can beproduction-related.4.2 The qualifying agents shall be cap
19、able of answeringtechnical questions requested by the coating applicator relatingto the application of the specified coating material(s). Thequalifying agents shall be thoroughly familiar with the speci-fied coating material(s) and acceptance criteria and shall beaware of any difficulties in applyin
20、g the coating to any surface.4.3 The qualifying agents shall have a wet-film gage of thesame type used by the coating applicator.4.4 The qualifying agents shall take approximately 16wet-film thickness readings on the test areas. These readingsshall be recorded as specified in Section 5. The wet-film
21、thickness readings shall be used to verify the specified dry-filmthickness requirements and uniformity of application. Thenumber and location of readings shall be as indicated in Fig. 3.4.5 The coating applicator and the qualifying agents shallunderstand the required dry-film thickness range require
22、mentsof the governing documents before any coatings are applied.4.6 Qualifying agents shall inspect the finished surface toverify that it conforms to the requirements of the governingdocuments. A description of the appearance of the completedapplied coating shall be recorded on the form shown in Fig
23、. 4.5. Report5.1 The qualifying agents shall use a report form similar tothat in Fig. 4 to record wet-film thickness readings specified in4.4 and the appearance of the completed coating surface asspecified in 4.6.5.2 The qualifying agents and coating applicator shall signthe report form.5.3 The gene
24、ration of documentation and maintenance ofrecords shall be as delineated in the applicable project docu-ments.6. Initial Qualification6.1 The qualifying agents shall prepare a qualification formsimilar to Fig. 5. The qualification form shall state the coatingmaterials used and the application equipm
25、ent used in the test.6.2 The qualifying agents and the coating applicator shallsign the qualification form.7. Requalification7.1 The owner or his designated representative may deter-mine the degree of requalification to be permitted, as well asthe acceptance of previously qualified coating applicato
26、rsbased on time interval since the date of the qualification andprovided the same coating materials and application proce-dures are used. Note the acceptance of previous qualification inthe quality assurance file for the project.8. Limited QualificationsTouch Up and Repair8.1 Limited qualifications
