Scope1.1 These test methods cover the measurement of the meanquantity-by-weight of liquids dispensed from a mechanicalpum

3、p dispenser (spray or flow type) with a consumer-typeproduct on each actuation.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and dete

Significance and Use3.1 This test method can be used to compare the output perstroke of different pump dispensers

5、for the purpose of estab-lishing dosage and use instructions for products of consumerusage.3.2 This test method is suitable for establishing specifica-tions for both the pump dispenser and the final package.4. Sampling4.1 Select an appropriate number of pump dispensers atrandom for the precision and

6、 accuracy desired.Anumber of tentest specimens are recommended, but a minimum of three isacceptable.5. Test Specimens5.1 Test specimens shall be clean pump dispensers with diptubes assembled in the same manner as in production.6. Conditioning6.1 If possible, condition the test specimens at 23 6 3 C(

7、73 6 5.4F) for not less than 4 h. If the test specimens are notconditioned at the recommended temperature, this should benoted in the test report discussed in 12.1.6.2 If the test specimens have been newly-made at the timeof the test, it is recommended that the test specimens age at 236 3C (73 6 5.4

8、F) for 24 h before beginning the test. If thetest specimens are not allowed to age for 24 h, then it shouldbe noted in the test report as discussed in 12.1.GRAVIMETRIC METHOD #1This method is to be used when taring of the packageweight is wanted or possible.7. Apparatus7.1 Balance, with direct readi

9、ng to 0.01 g. Top-loading oranalytical style is recommended.NOTE 1For applications requiring greater accuracy, a top-loading oranalytical style balance with direct reading to 0.001 g is recommended.7.2 Container, an appropriate container for the pump dis-penser under test; however, the actual contai

10、ner to be used onthe final package is recommended.8. Procedure8.1 Fill the container with product to the level to be seen inthe final package and secure the mechanical pump dispenser tothe container.8.2 If the pump dispenser is equipped with an overcap orlocking feature, remove or release to permit

11、the pump dis-penser to be in the operable mode.8.3 If the pump dispenser has a variable dosage feature,make an appropriate adjustment to the desired dosage at thistime.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D10 onPackaging and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D10.3

14、ng it until a full discharge of productoccurs.8.5 Place the package on the balance and tare the weight tozero.8.6 Actuate the pump dispenser ten times by hand at the rateof 60 to 120 (90 6 15 preferred) strokes per minute.NOTE 2Care must be taken to use the full stroke on each actuation.8.7 Reweigh

15、the package and record the value to the nearest0.01 or 0.001 g as appropriate for the balance used and recordthe weight on the data sheet.8.8 Repeat 8.1-8.7 for each pump dispenser selected fortesting in accordance with 5.1.GRAVIMETRIC METHOD #2This method is to be used when taring of the packagewei

22、 following information:12.1.1 Description of the mechanical pump dispenser andproduct tested.12.1.2 Number of specimens tested.12.1.3 Mean, maximum, and minimum values of the weightper pump stroke for all test specimens tested, and12.1.4 For pumps with an adjustable dispensing feature, themean, maxi

23、mum, and minimum values of the weight per pumpstroke for all specimens tested.13. Precision and Bias13.1 PrecisionThe precision of Test Methods D 4336 ishighly dependent on the particular pump tested. One laboratoryhas investigated one particular fine mist pump and a hair spraywith three replicate t

24、ests using Gravimetric Method #1, yield-ing an average output per stroke of 0.174 gr. with a range of0.177 to 0.172 gr. and a standard deviation of 0.0026 gr. Othermechanical pump dispensers will have other averages of outputper stroke and will have more or less variability betweenreplicate tests. U

25、sers of this test method are suggested toreference historical files of previous tests of similar pumps foran estimate of within laboratory repeatability. The committeebelieves that because of this varying pump style dependency,further investigation of repeatability and reproducibility is notpractica

26、ble.13.2 BiasTest Methods D 4336 has no bias because anaccepted reference or referee value is not available.14.
