Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers reinforced-thermosetting-resin flanges defined by type (method ofmanufacture), grade (generic type of resin), class (pressure endthrust capability), and pressure rating. 22、ation system of Table 2.4.2 Designation CodeThe flange-designation code shallconsist of the abbreviation for contact molded (CM) followedby the type as a capital letter, grade as anArabic numeral, classas a Roman numeral, and the pressure-rating category as acapital letter and two Arabic numbers ide
23、ntifying the cell-classification designations of the short-term rupture pressureand sealing-test pressure, respectively. Thus, a completeflange-designation code shall consist of three letters, oneArabic numeral, one Roman numeral, one letter and twonumerals.4.2.1 ExampleContact molded fiberglass is
24、CM-AlID-46.This designation described a stub flange, made using glass-fiber-reinforced epoxy resin for full-axial pressure thrust. Theflange has a 100-psi (0.69-MPa) pressure rating, a short-termrupture pressure of 400-psi (2.76-MPa), and a sealing-testpressure of 225-psi (1. 55-MPa).4.3 Attachment
25、of Flanges to Pipe, Pipe Fittings, or Tanks:4.3.1 Type “A” flanges are to be butt and strap welded topipe described in Specifications D2996, D2997, D3262,D3517, and D3754, or using overlay joint into a tank asdescribed in Specifications D3299 and D4097.4.3.2 Type “B” flanges are built onto elbows, r
26、educers, orother parts where the use of an integral flange (Type “A”) is notpractical or required.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Flanges manufactured in accordance with this specifi-cation shall be composed of reinforcement embedded in orsurrounded by cured thermosetting resin.5.2 The resins, reinf
27、orcements, and other materials, whencombined into composite structure, shall produce a flange thatwill meet the performance requirements of this specification.NOTE 3The term “other materials” does not include recycled orreprocessed thermosetting plastics which might otherwise be added asfillers.5.3

Performance Requirements6.1 The following performance requirements are intended toprovide classification and performance criteria for the purposeof qualification testing and rating of prototype constructionsand periodic reevaluation of the manufacturers stated ratings.They are not intended as rout
32、ine quality assurance require-ments for production runs of rated flanges:6.1.1 SealingFlanges shall withstand a pressure of at least1.5 times the pressure rating without leakage when tested inaccordance with 9.4.6.1.2 Short-Term Rupture StrengthFlanges shall withstanda hydrostatic load of at least f
33、our times their pressure ratingwhen tested in accordance with 9.5 using flat-faced steelclosure and using the gasket or “O” ring designated by theflange manufacturer.6.1.3 Bolt TorqueFlanges shall withstand, without visiblesign of damage, a bolt torque of two times that recommendedby the manufacture
34、r. The use of a non-fluid thread lubricant isrecommended on all bolts.7. Dimensions and Tolerances7.1 Flange and Bolt DimensionsFlanges of 24 in. (610mm) or smaller diameter shall conform to the values for boltcircle and number and size of bolt holes, for Class-150 castiron flanges in ASME B 16.5. F
35、langes larger than 24 in. (610mm) in diameter shall conform to the values for bolt circle,number and size of bolt holes, for Class-125 cast-iron flangesin ASME B 16.1 as shown in Table 3. The tolerance for theseflange dimensions shall be the same as those contained inASME B 16.1 and B 16.5. A flat w
36、asher is to be used under allbolt heads and nuts.NOTE 4Interference between the hub and bolt spot face may occur,especially in high-pressure flanges. The use of ASME B 18.21.1 narrowwashers is suggested because of their smaller outside diameter. Thecustomer should be notified when these washers with
37、 smaller outsidediameter are to be used.NOTE 5For special-design large flanges, it may be desirable toprovide the required bolt area by using smaller bolts spaced closertogether than is normally used for steel flanges. The minimum bolt sizeshall be58 in. (16 mm). Flange dimensions shall be by purcha
38、ser-manufacturer agreement.7.1.1 Flange Face for Full-Faced Gaskets The flange faceshall be perpendicular to the axis of the fitting within12 , andshall be flat to132 in. (1 mm) for sizes up to and including18-in. (457-mm) diameter and116 in. (2 mm) for largerdiameters. For other sealing systems the
39、 tolerances must beestablished to meet the requirements of 6.1.1.7.1.2 Washer-Bearing SurfaceWasher-bearing surfaceshall be flat and parallel to the flange face within 1.7.1.3 Flange Outside DiameterOutside diameter offlanges is to be at least equal to that of ASME B 16.5 for up to24-in. (610-mm) in
40、side diameter and ASME B 16.1 for largerflanges. It is accepted practice to increase all flange outsidediameters to provide greater strength at the bolt holes.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 Workmanship and appearance shall conform to Table 5on visual acceptance criteria of standard C582 f
41、or the processside, and shall be as free as commercially practical of defects,including indentations, delaminations, bubbles, pinholes, for-eign inclusions, and resin-starved areas in the structural layerand outer surface as agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer.9. Test Methods9.1 Co
42、nditioningWhen conditioning is required, and in allcases of disagreement, condition the test specimens at 73.4 63.6F (23 6 2C) for not less than 40 h prior to test, inaccordance with Procedure A of Test Methods D618.9.2 Test ConditionsThe tests may be conducted at ambienttemperature and humidity con
43、ditions. When controlled-environment testing is specified, conduct test at 73.4 6 3.6F(23 6 2C).
