、Designation: D 6164 05e1Standard Specification forStyrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) Modified BituminousSheet Materials Using Polyester Reinforcements1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 6164; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,
、in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.e1NOTESection 3, subsection 9.2, and Table 2 were editorially corrected in March 2008.1. Sco
、pe1.1 This specification covers prefabricated modified bitumi-nous sheet materials reinforced with polyester fabric as theprimary reinforcement, (see Note 1) with or without granules, which use styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) thermoplasticelastomer as the primary modifier and are intended for use int
、he fabrication of multiple ply roofing and waterproofingmembranes.NOTE 1Many modified bituminous sheets are currently marketedwith polyester mat reinforced with glass yarns to improve processing inthe manufacture of the finished modified bitumen product and to reducedistortions that may be introduce
、d during production. These glass yarnsare typically a small percentage of the reinforcement and do not contributeto the physical properties of the finished product so much as to make theseproducts be classified by D 6162.1.2 This specification is intended as a material specificationonly. Issues rega
、rding the suitability of the specific roofconstructions or application techniques are beyond this scope.1.3 The specified tests and property limits used to charac-terize the sheet materials are intended to establish minimumproperties. In-place roof system design criteria, such as fireresistance, fie
、ld strength, impact/puncture resistance, materialcompatibility, uplift resistance, and others, are factors beyondthe scope of this material specification.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. Material and Manufacture5.1 In the process of manufacture, the reinforcement issaturated with asphalt or modified asphalt and is impregnatedand coated on both sides with an SBS modified bituminouscoating
、. The SBS modified bituminous coating shall be per-mitted to be compounded with a mineral stabilizer.5.2 The Grade G sheet is surfaced on the weather side withmineral granules, except for any selvage. To prevent sticking inthe roll, the reverse side and any selvage shall be permitted tobe covered wi

Physical Properties6.1 The sheet shall conform to the minimum physicalproperties prescribed in Table 2.6.2 The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky asto cause tearing or other material damage upon being unrolledat any product temperature between 4 and 6
、0C (40 and140F).7. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations7.1 The finished product shall conform to the followingdimensions and variations:7.1.1 The width of the roll shall be as agreed between thepurchaser and the seller and shall not vary more than 1 %.7.1.2 The area of the roll shall be no l

If a laying line is provid
、ed,the line must not be less than 76.2 mm (3 in.) from the edge ofthe sheet.7.2 The mass and thickness of the finished product shall beas prescribed in Table 1.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The finished product shall be coated completely in acontinuous, unbroken film and shall be free of
、 such defects asholes, tears, cracks, wrinkles, or permanent deformations, blisters, ragged or untrue edges, and areas of uncoated rein-forcement.8.2 The surface of the weather side shall be uniform infinish and texture.8.3 For Grade G material, the mineral granules shall bedistributed uniformly over
、 the entire surface in an even layerexcluding any selvage, shall be embedded firmly in the SBSmodified bituminous coating, and the line of demarcationbetween the granule-surfaced portion of the weather side andany selvage shall be straight and parallel to the edges of thesheet.8.4 When unrolled on a
