11、per unit area, 2090 g/m2(42.8 lb/100 ft2).5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 In the process of manufacture, a single thickness of dryorganic felt shall first be saturated with asphalt. A coatingasphalt, compounded with or without a fine mineral stabilizerinsoluble in water, shall be applied to one or b
12、oth sides of thesheet. Class S rolls shall be surfaced on one side with a suitablematerial to prevent sticking in the roll. Class M and WS rollsshall be covered on the weather side with mineral granules,except for any selvage; the reverse side shall be covered witha suitable material to prevent stic

The surface of the felt shall be uniformly andrelatively smooth. Upon splitting or tearing on the bias, the feltsha
16、ll appear reasonably free of lumps or particles of foreignsubstances.6. Physical Properties6.1 Class S rolls shall conform to the breaking strength andwater permeance requirements prescribed in Table 1.6.2 Upon being unrolled, the finished product shall notcrack at ambient temperatures above 10C (50
17、F) nor be sosticky at any temperature below 60C (140F) as to causetearing or material damage.6.3 Class M rolls with a 102-mm (4-in.) wide selvage shallmeet the lap strength requirements with Type II or Type IIIcement specified in Specification D 3019.6.4 Pliability at 25C (77F)At least eight strips

19、ng.6.5 Behavior on Heating to 80C (176F) for 2 hThereshall be no more than 1.5 % volatile loss; and there shall be noflowing, sagging, blistering, or absorption of the asphaltcoating; and any granular surfacing shall not slide more than 2mm (116 in.) when tested in accordance with the appropriatesec
20、tion of Test Methods D 228.7. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations7.1 WidthThe material shall be put up in rolls and shall be914 mm (36 in.) wide, 60.7 %. Other widths agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer/supplier shall not beprohibited.7.2 SelvageClass M rolls are available wit
21、hout a selvage,with a 51 6 6-mm (2 614-in.) selvage, or with a 102 6 6-mm(4 614-in.) selvage. For Class WS rolls, the coated andgranule-surfaced portion of the weather side shall have auniform, minimum width of 432 6 6mm(17614 in.) for thestandard 914-mm (36-in.) wide sheet, or as agreed uponbetween

For otherClass WS roll widths, the coated and granule-surfaced portionshall have a minimum width of one half the sheet width minus25 6 6mm(1614 in.).7.2.1 For Class WS rolls, when the surfaced portion of theweather side exceeds the minimum width, the sheet s

For Class M and WS rolls, the mineralgranules shall be uniformly distributed over the surface in asmooth layer excluding any selvage, and be firmly embeddedin the asphalt coating.8.3
32、 For Class M and WS rolls, the line of demarcationbetween the granule-surfaced portion of the weather side andany selvage shall be straight and parallel to the edges of thesheet. For Class S rolls, or the selvage of Class M and WS rolls,any coating applied shall have applied to it a material topreve
33、nt sticking in the roll. Application of this material shall beuniform, but not so great as to hinder proper adhesion betweenplies.8.4 The asphalt coating (if any) and material applied to thereverse side to prevent sticking shall be uniform over the entirearea of the sheet.8.5 The finished material s
34、hall be free of visible defectssuch as holes, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears,protuberances, and indentations.9. Sampling and Test Methods9.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with Test MethodsD 228. Sampling shall be from
35、the granule-surfaced portion ofClass M and WS rolls.9.2 For Class M rolls, determine the lap strength in accor-dance with Specification D 3019.9.3 Determine the moisture content in accordance with TestMethods D 146.9.4 Determine the pliability in accordance the appropriatesection of Test Methods D 2

Inspection10.1 Inspection of the material shall be as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the producer/supplier as part of thepurchase contract.11. Rejec
38、tion and Resubmittal11.1 Failure to conform to any one of the requirementsprescribed in this specification shall constitute grounds forrejection. Rejection shall be reported to the producer/supplierpromptly in writing. In case of rejection, the producer/suppliershall have the right to reinspect the
39、rejected shipment andresubmit the lot after removal of those packages not conform-ing to the specified requirements.12. Packaging and Marking12.1 The roofing shall be put up in rolls. The rolls shall betightly wound, and shall be securely wrapped with a substantialgrade of paper completely encirclin
40、g each roll and pasted at theoverlap in such a manner as to prevent shifting from position.No roll shall contain more than two pieces, nor shall there bemore than 3 % of the rolls containing two pieces in anyshipment.12.2 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the producer/supplier and the purchaser,
41、each roll shall be plainly markedwith the name and brand of the producer/supplier, the gross ornet area of the roll, and the ASTM designation of the product,including class and type.13.
