8、inology D 6799.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 One end of a test specimen is clamped within one jaw ofa CRE tensile testing machine and a special fixture pierces arow of equally spaced needle holes through the opposite end ofthe specimen. In accordance with Test Method D 5035,atensile force is applied
9、to the specimen until rupture occurs. The measurement of the force required to cause rupture is themeasurement of edgecomb resistance.5. Significance and Use5.1 A measurement of a fabrics edgecomb resistance indi-cates the relative tendency of a fabric to pull apart under seamstress or similar action
10、. The related concepts of yarn slippageand seam slippage are limited to sewn seams, whereas themeasurement of edgecomb resistance is made at the edge of acut part in the absence of a sewn seam. The absence of a sewnseam in this test method eliminates the effect that a particularstitch might have on
11、the tendency of a yarn to slip near an edgeof a cut part5.2 This test method is useful for material design evalua-tions in such applications as airbags in which seam stress is amajor concern.5.3 This method may be used as a complement to TestMethod D 5822.6.
