3、e determination technique fora dip tube of a mechanical pump dispenser.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.

Significance and Use2.1 This test method is to be used to determine the length ofa dip tube of a mechanical pump dispenser that extends to thebottom-corner of a container.2.2 This test method is to be used to determine the lengt

6、h ofa dip tube of a mechanical pump dispenser that extends to thebottom-center of a container.3. Apparatus3.1 Thin Metal Ruler, with minimum gradients of onemillimeter and/or116 in. along with a zero index at the end ofthe ruler.3.2 Calipers.4. ProcedureTEST METHOD “A”DIP TUBE LENGTHDETERMINATION TO

7、 THE BOTTOM-CORNER OFTHE CONTAINERNOTE 1This test method is used when the dip tube of a mechanicalpump dispenser must extend to the bottom-corner of a container.4.1 Place the zero-index end of the ruler into the containeras shown in Fig. 1.4.2 Turn the ruler so that the side of the ruler reaches as

8、farinto the bottom-corner of the container as possible.NOTE 2If the cross-sectional area of the container is not round,position the ruler into the farthest bottom-corner of the container.4.3 Adjust the ruler so that it is positioned through thecenter axis of the container opening.4.4 Measure the dip

9、 tube length to within 1 mm or116 in. Ifthe measurement value is between the whole millimetre or116thgradient, use the larger value (that is, if measurement is 118.5mm, use 119 mm; or if measurement is 4-2132 in., use 4-1116in).4.5 If the dip tube measurement is in millimetres, subtract 1mm from the

10、 measured value. If the dip tube measurement is ininches, subtract116 in. from the measured value.4.6 Record the net value (original value minus 1 mm or116in.).4.7 To verify the new dip tube specification, prepare asample mechanical pump dispenser with the newly-specifieddip tube length.4.8 Secure t

11、he mechanical pump dispenser to the container.4.9 Verify that the end of the dip tube is not closed-off bythe bottom or side of the container.4.10 To specify the exposed dip tube length, measure thelength of the exposed body as per dimension “Y” of Fig. 2 andsubtract from the overall length as speci

12、fied in 4.6.NOTE 3If the container is not transparent, a section of the bottom ofthe container may need to be removed so that the position of the end of thedip tube may be viewed.TEST METHOD “B”DIP TUBE LENGTHDETERMINATION TO THE BOTTOM-CENTER OFTHE CONTAINERNOTE 4This test method is used when the d

13、ip tube of a mechanicalpump dispenser must extend to the bottom-center of a container.4.11 Place the zero-index end of the ruler into the containeras shown in Fig. 3.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D10 onPackaging and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D10.33

15、9, United States.4.12 Adjust the ruler so that it is positioned through thecenter axis of the container opening with the end of the ruler atthe bottom of the container.4.13 Measure the dip tube length to within 1 mm or116 in.through the plane generated by the top of the containeropening. If the meas

16、urement value is between the wholemillimeter or116thgradient, use the smaller value (that is, ifmeasurement is 118.5 mm, use 118 mm; or if measurement is4-2132 in., use 4-1016 in.).4.14 If the dip tube measurement is in millimetres, subtract1 mm from the measured value. If the dip tube measurement i

17、sin inches, subtract116 in. from the measured value.4.15 Record the net value (original value minus 1 mm or116in.).4.16 To verify the new dip tube specification, prepare asample mechanical pump dispenser with the newly-specifieddip tube length.4.17 Secure the mechanical pump dispenser to the con-tai

20、6. Precision and Bias6.1 PrecisionThe precision of this test method is highlydependent on the size of the container. An examination of theresults of dip tube length determination from 3 technicians inone lab found that for ten dip tubes measured under TestMethod “A”, the range of dip tube length spe

21、cified was from 4116 to 4216 in. long.6.2 BiasThis test method has no bias because an acceptedreference or referee value is not available.7.
