1、Designation: D 6934 04Standard Test Method forResidue by Evaporation of Emulsified Asphalt1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 6934; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A num

2、ber in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers the quantitative determinationof residue in emulsified asphalts composed principally of asemisolid or liquid asph

3、altic base, water, and an emulsifyingagent.1.2 This test method does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regul

Significance and Use3.1 The test may be used to indicate compositional charac-teristics of emulsified asphalt. Evaporation residue may also besubjected to othe

5、r characterization tests.3.2 This test method for residue by evaporation tends togive an asphaltic residue lower in penetration and ductility thanthe distillation test method. Material may be accepted but shallnot be rejected as failing to meet specifications containingrequirements for determination

6、 of residue by distillation, ondata obtained by evaporation. If residue from evaporation failsto meet the requirements for properties specified for residuefrom distillation, tests shall be rerun using the distillation testmethod.4. Summary of Method4.1 A sample of emulsified asphalt in an open top b

Sample Conditioning for Testing5.1 All emulsified asphalts shall be properly stirred toachieve homogeneity before testing.5.2 All emulsified asphalts with

8、viscosity testing require-ments of 50C shall be heated to 50 6 3C in the originalsample container in a water bath or oven. The container shouldbe vented to relieve pressure. After the sample reaches 50 63C, stir the sample to achieve homogeneity.5.3 Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing require

9、mentsof 25C should be mixed or stirred at 25 6 3C in the originalsample container to achieve homogeneity.NOTE 1Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing requirements of25C may be heated and stirred as specified in 5.2 if necessary. In theevent the 5.2 method is used, the sample should be cooled to

Procedure A7.1 Use Procedure A when determination of the percentageof residue only is required.7.2 Determine the weight of each beaker containing a glassrod to 0.1 g. Weigh 50 6 0.1 g of thoroughly mixed, emulsifieda

At theend of this period remove each beaker and stir the residuethoroughly. Replace in the oven for 1 h, then remove thebeakers from the oven, allow to c

Also, the placing of beakers andemulsified asphalt samples in a cold or warm oven and bringing the ovenand sample up to a temperature of 163C togethe

After the calculation for percentage of residue, replace the beakers in the oven until the asphalt residue issufficiently fluid to pass through a 300-m sieve (usuallyrequiring 15 to 30 min).
