Terminology3.1 The refined coal tar emulsion mixed at the contractorsyard or at the job site shall meet the requirements of Specifi-cation D5727
9、/D5727M. Mixture Types I and II (see AppendixA of Practice D3423/D3423M for standard definition of terms)are described below:3.1.1 Type I materiala mixture of refined coal tar emul-sion meeting Specification D5727/D5727M, water, and aggre-gate.3.1.2 Type II materiala mixture of refined coal tar emul

Classification4.1 This specification is designed to give specifying authori-ties the information necessary to ensure that the appropriatebase refined coal tar emulsion mixtures are specified forprotecting bituminous concrete
11、pavements where fuel resis-tance is required.4.2 Normal aggregate loadings for Type I materials shouldrange from 0.360 to 0.600 kg/L3 to 5 lb/gal. Type II materialscan have slightly higher loadings of aggregate; however,aggregate loadings in excess of 0.720 kg/L 6 lb/gal arestrongly discouraged.NOTE
12、 1Several researchers have shown that high aggregate loadingsresult in a lack of fuel resistance as determined by the Resistance toKerosene test according to Test Methods D2939. 18、slag has been used successfully) angularaggregate composed of clean, hard, durable particles free ofclay and other objectionable material when tested in accor-dance with Test Method C142/C142M. (Boiler slag has beenused successfully.)NOTE 2It is recommended that this aggregate meet the gradationgive
19、n in Table 1, when tested in accordance with Test Method C136/C136M.5.3 AdditiveIn the case of Type II material, the additiveshall be approved by the base refined coal tar emulsionmanufacturer.6. Performance Requirements6.1 Type I CompositionThe refined coal tar emulsion sealcoat shall consist of a
20、mixture of refined coal tar emulsion,water, and aggregate and be proportioned within the ranges asshown in Table 2. The composition shall have written approvalof the refined coal tar emulsion manufacturer.6.2 Type II CompositionThe refined coal tar emulsionslurry seal coat shall consist of a mixture
21、 of refined coal taremulsion, water, aggregate, and additive and be proportionedwithin the ranges as shown in Table 3. The composition shallhave written approval of the local coal tar emulsion manufac-turer.6.3 Mixture TestingPrior to application, the contractorshall submit samples of component mate
22、rials for the proposedmix in accordance with the terms of the agreement between thecontractor and owner/related parties. The samples shall beblended according to selected proportions as given in theappropriate table, either Table 2 or Table 3, and tested forconformance with Table 4 requirements, for
23、 the appropriatetype of mixture. The samples shall be tested by a laboratorydesignated by the owner/related parties.6.3.1 Aggregate Verification TestPeriodic samples of mix-ture being applied at the job site shall be taken for mix designverification in accordance with Test Methods D2939. In orderto
24、verify that the proper amount of aggregate specified inTables 2 and 3 is contained in the mixture, samples of mixturebeing applied at the job site shall be taken for aggregate contentverification in accordance with Test Methods D2939.6.4 The manufacturer shall approve the refined coal taremulsion as
25、 to the specific composition numbers to be used inthe mix design.7. Other Requirements7.1 Both mixture types shall be of suitable consistency forapplication by brush, squeegee, roller, or suitable spray equip-ment without heating and shall bond to properly prepared dampor primed surfaces.7.2 The mix
26、ture, after stirring to homogeneity, shall besuitable for application by the selected method in single coatswithout appreciable drainage on inclines up to 0.8 %.7.3 The mixture shall conform to the physical propertiesprescribed in Table 4. When the mixture fails any of the givenrequirements, it shal
27、l be reformulated and retested for compli-ance.8. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 Emulsion shall be packaged to permit acceptance bycarrier for transportation
33、 and to afford adequate protectionfrom normal hazards of handling and shipping.10.2 Each package shall be plainly marked with the nameand brand of the manufacturer/ supplier, ASTM designation aswell as the type or grade of the product, production code, or lotnumber. If the shipment is by bulk tanker
34、 load, the beforementioned information shall be so noted on the bill of lading.11.
