Scope1.1 This performance specification covers rainwear andall-purpose water-repellent coat outer fabrics composed of anyt

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 Outerweara coat or jacket.3.1.2 Rainweara coat or jacket which has the capability toresist wetting and penetration, by water.3.1.3 All-purposean outerwear garment, often with aremovable lining, which is suita

15、5 Water resistancein textiles, the ability of a fabric toresist wetting and penetration by water, usually because of theapplication of a coating or finish.3.2 For definitions of textile terms used in this specification,refer to Terminologies D 123, D 3136, or D 7022. For termsrelating to chemical an

16、d colorfastness testing refer to specificAATCC test methods.3.3 Definitions found in a dictionary of common usage aresuitable for this specification.4. Significance and Use4.1 Fabrics intended for rainwear and all-purpose, water-repellent coat end use should meet all of the requirements listedin Tab

17、le 1 of this specification.4.2 It should be recognized that fabric can be producedutilizing an almost infinite number of combination of construc-tion variables (e.g., type of fibers, percentage of fibers, yarntwist, yarn number, warp and pick count, chemical andmechanical finishes). Additionally, fa

18、shion or aesthetics dictatethat the ultimate consumer may find acceptable articles madefrom fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements inTable 1.4.2.1 Hence, no single performance specification can possi-bly apply to all the various fabrics that could be utilized for thisend-use.4.3 The

19、uses and significance of particular properties andtest methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of thespecified test methods.5. There may be no overall co

26、rrelationbetween the results obtained with the CRT machine and with the CREmachine. Consequently, these two breaking load testers cannot be usedinterchangeably. In case of controversy, the CRE method (Test MethodD 5034) shall prevail.5.2 Resistance to Yarn SlippageDetermine the resistanceto yarn sli

27、ppage as directed in Test Method D 434.5.3 Tongue Tear StrengthDetermine the tongue tearstrength as directed in Test Method D 1424.NOTE 3If preferred, use of Test Method D 2261 is permitted withexisting requirements as given in this specification. There may be nooverall correlation between the resul

28、ts obtained with the tongue tearmachine (Test Method D 2261) and with the Elmendorf machine ( TestMethod D 1424). Consequently, these two tongue tear testers cannot beused interchangeably. In case of controversy, Test Method D 1424 shallprevail.5.4 Bursting Strength Determine the bursting strength o

29、fknit fabrics as directed in Test Method D 3786.NOTE 4There is no overall correlation between the results obtainedwith the diaphragm bursting tester (Test Method D 3786) and the CRTmachine equipped with a bursting attachment (Test Method D 3787).Consequently, these two bursting testers cannot be use

30、d interchangeably.In case of controversy, Test Method D 3786 shall prevail.5.5 Dimensional Change:5.5.1 Pressing and Finishing During GarmentManufacturingDetermine the dimensional change duringpressing and finishing as directed in AATCC Test Method 135.5.5.1.1 If no agreement has been made between p

31、urchaserand supplier, press and finish specimen(s) using a flat-bed pressas described in Test Method 2724.5.5.2 LaunderingDetermine the dimensional change afterlaundering as directed in the applicable procedure in AATCCTest Method 135.5.5.3 Dry CleaningDetermine the dimensional changeafter dry clean

32、ing in accordance withAATCC Test Method 158NOTE 5Launderable fabrics are expected normally to be able to bedrycleaned except where all or part of the fabric will not withstanddrycleaning. For example, the fabric could contain a functional finishsoluble in the solvent, or the fiber could be degraded

33、by the solvent, whichwould be the case with poly(vinyl chloride) fiber. If a fabric would beharmed by ALL methods of care except for drycleaning, it should beconsidered Dry Clean only.5.6 Colorfastness:5.6.1 LaunderingDetermine the colorfastness to launder-ing as directed in the applicable procedure
