Significance and Use4.1 Surfactant staining is a common problem with exteriorhouse paints, particularly when subjected to humid environ-ments (such as morning dew) shortly after application.4.2 Interior paints used i
7、n humid areas such as kitchens andbathrooms may also experience surfactant staining.4.3 Leaching of water-soluble materials may be dependenton colorant dispersions that are mixed into tint base paints.Other paint components may also affect the leaching ofwater-soluble materials.5. Apparatus5.1 Film
8、Applicator, suitable to obtain a wet film thicknesstypically in the range of 125-250 m (5-10 mils), or as agreedupon between manufacturer and supplier.6. Materials6.1 Black plastic panels.36.2 Distilled water.6.3 Syringe, 1.0 cc.7. Procedure7.1 Apply the test paint along the long dimension of thebla
9、ck plastic panel using the selected film applicator. Allow todry for 4 hours at standard atmospheric conditions of 23 6 2C(73.5 6 3.5F) and relative humidity of 50 6 5 % as specifiedin Specification D3924. Use the same film thickness whencomparing a series of latex paint films.7.2 Divide the test pa
10、nel into three sections, labeling them 4Hours, 1 Day, and 4 Days or times agreed upon by themanufacturer and supplier. (Fig. 1)7.3 Place a row of four droplets of distilled water at roomtemperature across the top of the first designated section of thetest paint. Each droplet shall be approximately 0
11、.1 cc involume.7.4 Allow the water droplets to stand for 10 minutes. Thenlift the panel into a vertical position so the water droplets rundown the section of the paint film being evaluated.7.5 Repeat steps 7.3 and 7.4 after 1 and 4 days, or otherdesignated intervals, in their respective sections of
12、the testpanel.8. Report8.1 Rate the test panel based on visual examination imme-diately after lifting and after an overnight dry.
