Significance and Use4.1 This practice provides requirements for the handling,transportation, and storage of IG-55 encountered in distributionthrough b

It is intendedto ensure that IG-55 is handled, transported, and stored in sucha way that its physical property virtues are not degraded.Transport may be by various means, such as, but not limited to,highway, rail, and water.5. Practice5.1 To ensure safe handling
11、, loading, unloading, storing,and transporting of material, personnel shall be trained in theCGA Standards C-1, C-4, C-6, C-7 and P-1 and CFR TItle 40,Part 82.106, CFR Title 49, Part 172, CFR Title 49, Part172.101, CFR Title 49, Part 173, CFR Title 49, Part 178 andCFR Title 49, Part 180.5.2 Handling
12、:5.2.1 Handling shall be in accordance with CGA P-1.5.2.1.1 Personnel who handle or store, or both, cylinders ofIG-55 shall be trained properly to recognize and identify thecharacteristics of the product and the proper methods of safelyhandling full, partially full, and empty cylinders.1This practic

15、West Conshohocken, PA 19428-2959, United States.5.2.2 Facility personnel must be trained in applicable CFRTitle 49, Parts 173 and 178, and the CGA documents refer-enced in 2.1.5.2.3 IG-55 handling shall be in nonsmoking, heater-free,ventilated areas to preclude product accumulation. Provisionsshall
16、be made to ensure that service areas limit IG-55 concen-trations to not exceed 52 % (10 % Sea Level Oxygenequivalency) for 30 s and 7 % (19.5 % Sea Level OxygenEquivalency) for 8 h.5.2.4 Cylinders may be charged to a pressure 10 % in excessof their marked service pressure provided the requirementssp
17、ecified in CFR Title 49, 173.302 are met.5.2.5 Cylinders shall be free of dirt and contamination thatwould contribute to or would cause deterioration of productduring shipment or storage. Precautions should be taken toprevent the entry of oil, water, or any other foreign matter intocontainers. Uniqu
18、e coatings or preservatives applied prior toshipment to protect the containers are not considered contami-nation.5.3 Transportation:5.3.1 Transportation shall be as specified in accordance withDOT regulations of CFR Title 49.5.3.1.1 The minimum design pressure requirements shall beas indicated in CF
19、R Title 49, Part 173.301. The pressure insidethe container at 70F (21C) shall not exceed the servicepressure for which the container is marked. The pressure insidethe container at 130F (54C) shall not exceed 5/4 times theservice pressure for which the container is marked. Figs. 1 and2 illustrate the
20、 effect of temperature on cylinders filled withIG-55.5.3.2 Transportation shall be by suitable vehicles to pre-clude cylinder damage by excessive mechanical vibration,shock, freezing, or deleterious high temperatures throughoutthe entire transport route.5.3.2.1 If cylinders are expected to be subjec
21、ted to unac-ceptable transport conditions, the cylinders should be placedunder insulated conditions.5.3.3 Compressed gas cylinder permanent marking require-ments shall be as specified under Part 178 of CFR Title 49 andmust be maintained in legible condition as required by CFRTitle 49 Part 173. 22、ng labels shall be affixed to cylindersconforming to requirements of CFR Title 40 Part 82.106.5.4 Storage:5.4.1 Storage shall be in accordance with CGA P-1, SafeHandling of Compressed Gases in Containers, in qualifiedcylinders in accordance with CFR Title 49, Parts 173 and 178.5.4.2 Cylinders should
23、 be stored in areas that will protectvessels from physical and environmental damage and tamper-ing from unauthorized personnel.5.4.2.1 Facilities should be of construction and orientationso that safety requirements are fulfilled for the storage ofpressurized cylinders.5.4.3 Storage cylinders shall b
24、e fitted with pressure releasemechanisms to limit vessel pressure to not more than the ratedworking pressure of the IG-55 container in use at any particulartime.5.4.3.1 Periodic hydrostatic testing and reinspection of cyl-inders used for IG-55 shall comply with Title 49 CFR, Part180.5.4.4 Insulation
25、 shall be placed on pallets or shoring, andprovisions should be made to prevent excessive shock orthermal fluctuations to cylinders.5.4.5 Cylinders shall be stored in a manner that will preventcontamination from external sources.6.
