、Designation: D7519 11Standard Test Method forInternal Bond Strength and Thickness Swell of Cellulosic-Based Fiber and Particle Panels After Repeated Wetting1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D7519; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adopt

、ion or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 These test methods provide a measure of the moistureresistance of cellulo

、sic-based fiber and particle panels (forexample, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), particleboard, and hardboard). Resistance to moisture changes is measured bydimensional and internal bond changes and does not refer todecay/mold resistance or other performance aspects.1.2 These test methods do not add

、ress structural propertiesor performance following moisture exposure. Panels are sub-jected to repeated cycles of water submersion and oven drying. After three cycles, the test specimens are tested for thicknessswelling (TS) and internal bond (IB) strength.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units ar

、e to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility

Significance and Use3.1 These test methods provide a measure of the moistureresistance of cellulosic-based fiber and particle panels (forexample,

、medium-density fiberboard (MDF), particleboard, and hardboard). This test methodology can be used to assessthe thickness swelling and bond integrity characteristics ofpanels engineered for interior end-use applications involvingexposure to cyclic temperatures and intermittent wetting envi-ronments.4.

、 Apparatus4.1 The methods and test equipment used in Test MethodsD1037 are used in these test methods.5. Sampling and Test Specimens5.1 Two samples taken from the same board measuring 6 36 in. (152 3 152 mm) shall be used for collection of thicknessswelling (TS) data.5.2 Three internal bond (IB) str

、ips measuring 6 3 12 in.(152 3 305 mm) shall be cut from the same board as the TSsamples.6. Conditioning6.1 Condition specimens to practical equilibrium at a rela-tive humidity of 65 6 3 % and a temperature of 68 6 4F (206 2C). Practical equilibrium is defined as the state of timechange in which, fo

、r practical purposes, the specimen is neithergaining nor losing appreciable moisture content in a 24-hperiod. Guide D4933 provides further information on moistureequilibrium.7. Procedure7.1 Thickness Swell (TS)7.1.1 After conditioning, the mass of the specimen shall bemeasured to an accuracy of 60.2

、 %. The width, length, andthickness of the specimen shall be measured to an accuracy of60.3 % to compute the volume of the specimen.7.1.2 The thickness shall be measured at four points mid-way along each side 1 in. (25 mm) away from the edge and theaverage of these four measurements shall be recorde
