A number in parentheses i

Scope1.1 This specification covers two grades of burner fuelconsisting of triglycerides and naturally occurring constituentsof triglycerides including monoglycerides,

3、diglycerides, andfree fatty acids and distinguished by the pour point. The gradedesignation (TBF) identifies them as triglyceride burner fuels.1.2 The triglyceride burner fuels specified are intended foruse in commercial or industrial air or steam-atomized fuel oilburning equipment manufactured from

4、 materials compatiblewith fuels having an acid number as specified in Table 1 andunder various climatic and operating conditions for the pur-poses of heat generation. The fuels specified herein are notintended for blending with conventional fuel oils for thispurpose. They are not intended for use in

5、 burners 0.32 GJ/h(0.3 3 106BTU/h) such as residential burners or smallpressure atomization burners nor are they intended for use ininternal combustion engines or marine applications.NOTE 1For information on the significance of the terminology andtest methods used in this specification, see Appendix

6、 X1.1.3 This specification does not address the frequency withwhich any particular test shall be run.1.4 Nothing in this specification shall preclude observanceof national or local regulations, which can be more restrictive.1.5 The text of this standard references notes and footnotesthat provide exp

26、nd (2) industrial boilerslargeindirect heating units that transfer thermal energy to water orother fluids or gases for use in heating in industrial settings andmanufacturing processes. These boilers can be classified asutility/large industrial boilers with a heat input greater than 105GJ/h (100 3 10

Significance and Use4.1 This specification specifies the properties and limits fortriglyceride burner

33、 fuels to provide acceptable performance inliquid fuel burning equipment. It is for use in contracts for thepurchase of triglyceride burner fuels and for the guidance ofconsumers of such fuels. It may also be used by third-partytesting agencies in evaluating burner equipment for the pur-poses of ver

34、ifying performance and safety of the oil-burningappliances and by regulators of such fuel and equipment use.5. Requirements5.1 The triglyceride burner fuels shall be homogeneous,consisting primarily of triglycerides and naturally occurringconstituents of triglycerides and shall conform to the limiti

35、ngrequirements in Table 1.5.2 Buyer and seller may agree to modifications of limitingrequirements to meet special operating conditions provided themodifications fall within the limits specified in Table 1 for eachgrade.NOTE 2The grades specified may or may not correlate directly withsimilar grades i

36、n other ASTM standards. The usage descriptions of eachgrade may not describe all the uses but are included as general informa-tion.5.3 The triglyceride burner fuel grades are described asfollows:5.3.1 Grade TBF5Aburner fuel comprised of commercialrecycled and unused cooking oils, greases and rendere

37、d animalfats having a pour point below 21C in accordance with TestMethod D97. The requirements for this type of triglycerideburner fuel are presented in Table 1. This grade is intended foruse in industrial burners and commercial boilers equipped withdevices that use steam or compressed air to atomiz

38、e fuel oil ofhigher viscosity. Preheating may be necessary in some types ofequipment for burning this fuel and in colder climates for easeof handling.5.3.2 Grade TBF6Aburner fuel comprised of commercialrecycled and unused cooking oils, greases and rendered animalfats having a pour point equal to, or

39、 higher than, 21C inaccordance with Test Method D97. The requirements for thistype of triglyceride burner fuel are presented in Table 1. Thisgrade is intended for use in industrial burners and commercialboilers equipped with devices that use steam or compressed airto atomize fuel oil of higher visco

40、sity. The use of this grademay require preheating in the storage tank to permit pumping.Additional preheating at the burner may be necessary to permitsatisfactory atomization. The extra equipment and maintenancerequired to handle this fuel grade may preclude its use in smallor unattended installatio

41、ns, or both.5.4 Triglyceride burner fuels shall remain homogeneous anduniform in storage and shall not separate by gravity or aginginto layers under normal operating conditions.NOTE 3Prolonged storage or equipment downtime may necessitatecirculation of the fuel oil in tank to prevent such separation

42、.5.5 The triglyceride burner fuel shall be free of solid orfibrous matter that could cause system handling or maintenanceproblems.6. Sample Collection and Handling6.1 Inspection of the material shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier as part of the purchase order orcontract.6.2 Un

43、less otherwise specified, take a representative samplein accordance with Practice D4057, D4177 or other compa-rable sampling practices using a clean and appropriate samplecontainer. Containers previously holding a sample or any othertype of fluid are not considered appropriate containers.NOTE 4In ca

44、se of dispute, Practice D4057 is recommended as thereferee method.6.3 Aminimum sample size of 1 L is recommended for eachsample taken before compositing.6.4 Sample handling and mixing shall comply with PracticeD5854.7. Test Properties7.1 The properties listed in this specification are those ofgreate

45、st significance in obtaining acceptable performance ofthe burner.NOTE 5See X1.4 for the significance of test requirements.8. Test Methods8.1 The requirements enumerated in this specification shallbe determined in accordance with the following ASTM testmethods except as noted:8.1.1 Pour PointTest Met

46、hod D97. Test Methods D5949,D5950,orD6892 may alternatively be used with the samelimits. In case of dispute, Test Method D97 shall be used as thereferee method.8.1.2 Flash PointTest Method D93, Procedure B, exceptwhen other methods may be prescribed by law. For bothgrades, Test Method D3828 may alte

47、rnatively be used with thesame limits. In case of dispute, Test Method D93, Procedure B,shall be used as the referee method.8.1.3 Water and SedimentTest Method D1796. Test Meth-ods D2709 or D4007 may be used with the same limit. Fornon-emulsified samples, Test Methods D95 and D473 may alsobe used wi
