Scope1.1 This specification covers re-refined engine oil bottoms,also known as vacuum tower asphalt extender, that may
3、beused in formulating asphalt for pavement construction androofing. This specification has been developed specifically forthese two categories of product and is not intended for otheruses. Table 1 is to be used for pavement construction and Table2 for roofing. “Re-refined engine oil bottoms” (REOB)
4、is theprevailing name used by many state highway agencies andFHWA, while “vacuum tower asphalt extender” (VTAE) is thepreferred name used by the manufacturers of the product. Sinceeach name provides an important descriptor of productionelements (“re-refined” and “vacuum tower”) for the specificprodu
5、ct this specification addresses, this specification uses theterm “REOB/VTAE.”1.2 UnitsThe values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Thevalues stated in each system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, each system shall be used independently of

Materials and Manufacture3.1 REOB/VTAE shall be the product of processing usedengine oil using atmospheric distillation followed by vacuumdistillation to produce a vacuum residuum meeting the speci-fications outlined in Table 1 or Table 2.4. Physical Requi
