2、 revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers perforated
3、 plate with eitherround or square apertures, normally mounted in a frame for useas sieves in precision testing in the classification of materialsaccording to designated nominal particle size. A method forchecking the accuracy of perforated sieve plates is included asinformation in Appendix X1.NOTE 1
4、The perforated-plate sieves covered by this specification areintended for general precision testing. Some industries may require morerestricted specifications for sieves for special testing purposes.NOTE 2For other types of sieves see Specifications E11 and E161.NOTE 3Complete instructions and proce

Thismanual also contains a list of all ASTM published standards on sieveanalysis procedures for specific materials or industries.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard.
6、The values given in parentheses are mathemati-cal conversions to SI units that are provided for informationonly and are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 39、onmandatory Information)X1. METHOD OF CHECKING PERFORATED SIEVE PLATESX1.1 In principle, every aperture in a perforated sieve plateis eligible for inspection, so that the first test is a careful andmethodical visual examination applied to each aperture andcenter. If obvious faults are found, the sie
40、ve plate is unaccept-able.X1.2 Check the dimensions of the apertures using anaccurate steel rule or other suitable means. The use ofcalibrated flat-plug gages or calibrated tapered-pin gages isalso permitted. Since any perforated aperture has an inherenttaper, take care to make all measurements from
41、 the side of thesieve plate on which the manufacturer has indicated theaperture size. The apertures selected for measurements may beover any area of the sieve plate, but shall be those lying alongtwo straight lines at least 4 in. (100 mm) in length and shallinclude at least ten apertures. In the cas
42、e of round apertures, one of the straight lines selected shall follow a straight line ofapertures and the included angle between the two straight linesshall be 60. In the case of square apertures, one of the straightlines selected shall follow a straight line of apertures and theincluded angle shall
43、be 90 if the apertures are arranged withtheir midpoints at the vertices of squares, but shall be 63 26min if their midpoints are at the vertices of isosceles triangles. If the minimum number of apertures prescribed for checking isnot available along the two straight lines prescribed, check allapertur

PRESENTATION OF DATAX2.1 Sieve tests should be presented in ta

Thisdoes not preclude the representation of percentages on indi-vidual sieves provided the sieve interval is cle
