Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 The acoustical termi
5、nology used in this classificationis consistent with Terminology C 634.3.1.2 Sound absorption average (SAA)a single numberrating, the average, rounded off to the nearest 0.01, of thesound absorption coefficients of a material for the twelveone-third octave bands from 200 through 2500 Hz, inclusive,m
6、easured according to C 423.4. Significance and Use4.1 Acoustically absorptive materials are used for the con-trol of reverberation and echoes in rooms. This standardprovides a classification method for acoustically absorptivematerials applied directly to surfaces by trowel or by spray.5. Basis of Cl
7、assification5.1 Classification is made according to type of material,acoustical properties, flame spread, and dust propensity.5.2 Material TypeClassification of acoustically absorptivematerial according to material type is as follows:5.2.1 Type IMaterial is cementitious. Type I ingredientsshall be u
8、niformly mixed and ready for use by the addition ofwater. When received, the material in the container shall be dryand shall not be caked or sticky. After the material has beenproperly mixed with the amount of water specified by themanufacturer, the material shall be of such a consistency that itcan
9、 be applied with a plastering trowel or with a suitableplaster-spraying machine.5.2.2 Type II, Material is fibrous. Type II material shallconsist of mineral or organic fiber with an integrally mixedbinder, or it may be supplied for use with a liquid binder addedat the time of application.5.2.3 Type
10、III, Material is cellular plastic and is intended forapplication over beams, walls, ceilings, and columns. Type IIImaterials are normally designed to be mixed at the time ofapplication.5.3 Noise Reduction CoeffcientClassification of acousti-cally absorptive material according to its noise reductionc

16、ally absorptive materialshall be classified according to its flame spread index asfollows:5.4.1 Class (a)The flame-spread index of the acousticalmaterial shall not exceed 25 when tested in accordance withTest Method E 84, nor shall the material show evidence ofprogressive combustion after the test f
17、lame is extinguished. Allsurfaces, including those which would be exposed by cuttingthrough the material in any way, shall meet these requirements.In addition, Class (a) materials shall have a smoke developedrating not to exceed 50 when tested in accordance with TestMethod E 84.5.4.2 Class (b)The fl
18、ame-spread index shall not exceed75 on the exposed surface when tested in accordance with TestMethod E 84.5.4.3 Class (c)The flame-spread index shall not exceed200 on the exposed surface when tested in accordance withTest Method E 84.NOTE 4For example: A Type II, NRC 50, at x cm (y in.) of applicati
19、onclass (b) material is fibrous, has an NRC of 0.5 or and has a flame-spreadindex of less than 75. The value for x (and y) must be specified by themanufacturer.5.5 Dust PropensityClassification of acoustically absorp-tive material according to its dust propensity shall be asfollows:5.5.1 Category AD

Test Methods6.1 Sound Absorption Test (see 5.3)Sound absorption,sound absorption average, and noise reduction coefficients ofthe absorptive material shall be determined in accordance withTest Method C 423 using Type I mounting as defined inPractices E 795. A separ
22、ate measurement of absorption shall beperformed for each NRC grade under this standard classifica-tion.6.2 Flame-Spread Index (see 5.4)The flame-spread indexshall be determined in accordance with Test Method E 84.6.3 Dust Test (see 5.5)When required, the dust test shallbe performed in accordance wit
23、h Test Method E 859 exceptthat the measurements of the dust collected will be terminatedafter the first 24-h test period.
