Where possible, the expansionjoint shall be the manufacturers standard commercial product.Additional or superior
9、 features that are not prohibited by thisspecification but which are a part of the manufacturersstandard product, shall be included with the expansion jointbeing offered. A standard commercial product is a product thathas been sold or is currently being offered for sale on thecommercial market throu

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials:5.1.1 Materials of construction shall conform to the require-ments as specified in this specification (see Section 8) and shallbe new and free from defects that would adversely affect theperformance of individual co
19、mponents or assemblies.5.1.2 As specified in this specification and as required, theexpansion joint shall be provided with flanged or welded endconnections, limit stops, stuffing boxes with integral guides,base, drain connection, service connection, slip protectors, andadjustment rods.5.2 Manufactur
20、e:5.2.1 GeneralUnless otherwise required by thisspecification, the manufacturers standard shop practices forthe fabrication of the expansion joint is acceptable, providedthese practices conform to the requirements and recommenda-tions of this specification.5.2.2 All WeldingWelding procedure qualific
21、ations,welder performance qualification, welding materials, preheat,and postweld heat treatment if required, shall be in accordancewith ANSI B31.1 and ASME Code Section IX.5.2.3 IdentificationEach completed expansion joint shallhave a name plate made from a corrosion-resistant materialpermanently at
22、tached showing as a minimum the following:5.2.3.1 Manufacturers model number and joint size,5.2.3.2 Design pressure and design temperature range,5.2.3.3 Nominal traverse or movement per slip,5.2.3.4 Type of packing and service fluid, and5.2.3.5 Date of manufacture.6. Joint Descriptions6.1 Styles:6.1
23、.1 Style IThe slip of the expansion joint shall be guidedwith the body of the expansion joint by internal and externalguides that are integral with the stuffing box. Semiplasticpacking shall be injected into the stuffing box and may becontained within the stuffing box chamber by ring-type pack-ing.
24、All packing shall be of the self-lubricating type. Theexpansion joint and semiplastic packing shall be suitable forthe safe injection of the packing under full-line pressure to stopleakage. Provisions for packing injection shall be by deviceslocated radially about the stuffing box and designed to pe
25、rmita maximum evacuation of packing at the bottom of the packingdevice when the injector is fully engaged. The number ofdevices with injectors for each stuffing box shall be inaccordance with the manufacturers standard practice. Thedesign of the packing injection devices shall be such as toensure no
26、 blowback of injectable packing or the service fluidwhen injecting packing under full-line pressure.6.1.2 Style IIThe expansion joint shall be the same asStyle I except low-friction corrosion-resistant material orinserts shall be used for internal and external guiding to preventslip scoring from pip
27、e misalignment or vibration and to preventcorrosion of the guide surfaces.6.2 Classes:6.2.1 Class IThe expansion joint shall have slip at onlyone end of the joint. Class I expansion joints may or may notrequire a base.6.2.2 Class IIThe expansion joint shall have slip at bothends of the joint. Class
28、II expansion joints shall require a base.6.3 Forms:6.3.1 Form IWelded End: The expansion joint shall haveprovisions at each end of the joint for field welding to theadjoining pipe line.6.3.2 Form IIFlanged End: The expansion joint shallhave flanges at each end of the joint for bolting to the matingf
29、langes of the adjoining pipe line.6.3.3 Form IIIThe expansion joint shall have other endconnections as specified for attaching to the adjoining pipeline.7. Design7.1 The expansion joint shall be designed to conform toapplicable sections of the latest edition of ANSI B31.1 andother applicable documen
30、ts as noted in Section 2.7.2 Compresson ForceUnless otherwise specified, theforce to compress or extend the slip of the expansion joint shallnot exceed 1000 lbf/in. (175 100 N/m) of nominal pipediameter.8. Construction8.1 SlipThe slip shall be manufactured from steel pipeconforming to Specification
31、A53/A53M, Grade B, or a rolledand welded cylinder from Specification A285/A285M, GradeC plate, or equal with the longitudinal weld seam 100 %radiographed. The minimal wall thickness of the pipe or rolledcylinder shall be equivalent to Schematic 80 pipe for all sizesto 14 in. (356 mm), inclusive and
32、Schematic 60 for sizes 16 to24 in. (406 to 610 mm) to preclude slip collapse as a result ofexternal loading of the injectable packing. Heavier wall pipeF1007 86 (2014)2may be required for expansion joints subjected to pressuresabove 600 psig and for pipe sizes above 24-in. (610-mm)diameter.8.1.1 Chr
33、ome PlateThe slip of the expansion joints shallbe chrome plated with engineering chrome in accordance withSpecification B650, Class 50.8.2 Stuffng BoxThe stuffing box with integral internal andexternal guides shall be machined from Specification A53/A53M, Grade B Pipe, or AISI C-1018 seamless tubing
34、 or caststeel in accordance with A216/A216M, Grade WCB. A rolledand welded cylinder from Specification A285/A285M, GradeC plate, or equal may be used provided the longitudinal weldseam is 100 % radiograph examined in accordance with ANSIB31.1 and ASME Code Section V.8.3 Traverse ChamberThis chamber,
35、 also referred to asthe “E.J. Body,” shall be machined from Specification A53/A53M, Grade B seamless steel pipe having a wall thicknesssuitable for the design service conditions. A rolled and weldedcylinder from Specification A285/A285M, Grade C, or equalsteel plate of suitable thickness for the des
36、ign service condi-tions may also be used if the longitudinal weld seam is 100 %radiograph inspected to ANSI B31.1 and ASME Code SectionV.8.4 End ConnectionsThe end connections of the expan-sion joint (see Section 6) shall be flanged, weld end, combi-nation of both, or others as specified. Flanges sh
37、all conform toANSI B16.5 and be of the size, material, pressure class, andfacing specified. Weld ends shall be beveled for welding toconform to ANSI B16.25 and be of the size, material, andnominal wall thickness as specified for the mating pipe.8.4.1 Body End Connection for Class I Expansion Joints:
38、8.4.1.1 Form IWeld End: The reduction of the body sizeto the pipeline size shall be accomplished by a formedreduction of the traverse chamber (body) or by a reducer buttwelded to the traverse chamber (body) that meets the require-ments of ANSI B31.1 and the ASME Code Section VIII,Division 1.8.4.1.2
39、Form IIFlanged End: Forged flanges shall beattached to the body by butt welding only and shall be inaccordance with the requirements of ANSI B31.1 and theASME Code Section VIII, Division 1.8.5 Limit StopsLimit stops may be of the external orinternal type manufactured from a suitable material and de-
40、signed to withstand the full-line pressure thrust load in theevent of a pipeline anchor failure.8.6 Internal and External GuidesSee 8.2.8.6.1 Low-Friction Internal and External GuidesThe low-friction internal and external guides or inserts shall be madefrom noncorrosive materials with appropriate di
41、fferential hard-ness to also prevent scoring or binding of the slip.8.7 Base:8.7.1 Expansion Joint Without a Service ConnectionWhen a base is specified for Class I expansion joints, the baseshall be designed for use as a main anchor. Class II expansionjoints shall have a base that is suitable as an
42、intermediateanchor. The base shall be of cast or fabricated steel thatconforms to the applicable ASTM standard and shall besuitably attached to the joint and drilled in accordance with themanufacturers standard practice.8.7.2 Expansion Joint With a Service ConnectionClass Iand Class II expansion joi
43、nts with a service connection shall beprovided with a main anchor base and all anchor loading data(forces and moments) shall be made available to the manufac-turer to assure adequate anchor design. The base shall be ofcast or fabricated steel that conforms to the applicable ASTMstandard and shall be
44、 suitably attached to the joint and drilledin accordance with the manufacturers standard practice.8.8 Service ConnectionUnless otherwise specified, a ser-vice connection, when required, shall be the manufacturersstandard design and shall meet the applicable requirements ofthe ASTM, ANSI, and ASME Co
45、des. The service connectionshall be supplied with end connections as specified (see 8.5).8.9 Drain ConnectionWhen required, a drain connectionshall be attached to the body of the expansion joint and shall bethe manufacturers standard unless otherwise specified. Thedrain connection shall meet the req
46、uirements for fitting con-nections as specified in ANSI B31.1.8.10 PackingUnless otherwise specified, the packing shallbe the manufacturers standard-type packing and shall besuitable for the specified service conditions.8.11 Other Materials of ConstructionWhere the expan-sion joint is to transfer co
47、rrosive fluids, or be installed in acorrosive atmosphere, corrosive-resistant materials as specifiedmay be substituted for the carbon steel components, especiallythe sliding slip.9. Drawing Requirements9.1 DrawingsWhen specified, dimensional sketches ordrawings sufficiently detailed to describe the
48、expansion joint tobe supplied, shall be submitted with bid proposals. Theinch-pound system of measurements shall be used to dimen-sion drawings. Drawings shall note that the design of thecomponents or products is in full compliance with this speci-fication.10. Cleaning and Surface Preservation10.1 C
49、leaningThe internal and external surfaces of theexpansion joint shall be cleaned of dirt, oil, grease, and otherforeign material using a suitable cleaning solvent. Extremecare shall be used to ensure the interior is free of any slag, steelchips, or other similar materials that could lodge between theslip and the body and score the slip surface.10.2 Surface PreservationUnless specified, no preserva-tion will be required on the internal surface of the expansionjoint.
