Materials and Manufac

17、ture4.1 This specification covers fittings made from polyethyl-ene compounds as defined in Specification D3350.4.1.1 Polyethylene material compounds suitable for use inthe manufacture of electrofusion fittings under this specifica-tion shall meet Specification D3350 and shall meet Specifica-tion D33

18、50 classification and property requirements shown inTable 1 and shall have PPI TR-4 HDB and HDS listings at73F (23C) and HDB listings at 140F (60C).4.2 Rework MaterialClean rework polyethylene materialof the same resin, free of any wire or contaminants generatedfrom the fitting manufacturers own pro

19、duction, may be usedby the same manufacturer, as long as the fittings producedconform to the requirements of this specification.4.3 Heating MechanismThe heat mechanism shall be ofmaterials and design not detrimental to the performance of thefitting or the pipe to which it is intended to be joined. H

20、eatingmechanisms, such as wires or materials other thanpolyethylene, shall not exit the fitting in an area exposed tointernal pressure. Heat mechanisms shall be of a design thatensures that wire terminations are toward the outer edges of thefusion zone length and away from the pressure containing ar

21、ea.Examples of acceptable and unacceptable wire terminations areshown in Figs. 1-5.4.4 Removal of exterior layersFor PEX pipes containingan exterior non-PEX layer, such layers shall be completelyremoved according to the manufacturers instructions prior tomaking the electrofusion joint. The dimension

22、s of the PEXpipe after removal of non-PEX exterior layer/s shall meet therequirements of the relevant tubing or pipe Specifications F876or F2788.4.5 PEX pipe utilizing a mid-wall non-PEX layer areoutside the scope of this standard and therefore shall not beused to qualify fittings to this standard.5

23、. Performance Requirements5.1 The following requirements are for electrofusion jointsthat have been joined using the manufacturers recommendedjoining procedures. These requirements must be met by eachelectrofusion joint design, on each size and type of pipematerial for which the manufacturer recomme

24、nds use of hisfitting. Any revisions to the electrofusion joint design orprocessing by the manufacturer after the initial testing requiresretesting to ensure these requirements can still be met. 27、ecificationD2513.5.1.1 Assemblies using PEX pipes joined with electrofusionfittings shall be limited to the HDS rating of the PE material ofthe fitting as per 4.1.1 with a maximum usage temperature of140F.5.1.2 Assemblies using PEX pipes joined with electrofusionfittings shall not be used for distri

28、bution of natural gas or liquidpetroleum gas.5.1.3 It is not required that each configuration of a fitting betested to meet all of these qualifications (that is, 2 in. mainsaddle joint with multiple outlet configurations offered) as longas the electrofusion joint design is not altered in the configu

29、-ration differences.NOTE 1It is permissible when accomplishing these tests, to do so onthe highest and lowest dimension ratio of the same pipe material. If inthose tests all performance requirements are met, all dimension ratiosbetween those tested may be considered as having met the requirements.Th

30、ese tests do not have to cover the full range of dimension ratiosavailable, only the dimension ratio range on which the manufacturerrecommends his fitting be used.5.2 Pressure Requirements:5.2.1 Minimum Hydraulic Burst PressureThe fitting andfused joint shall not fail when tested in accordance with

31、9.1.The minimum hydraulic burst pressure at 73F (23C) of thetest specimen shall not be less than that required to produce theminimum fiber stress in the pipe as required by the controllingpipe standard for the type of pipe used in the test. In no caseshall the minimum hydraulic burst pressure be les

32、s than thatrequired to produce 2520 psi (17.4 MPa) fiber stress in the pipefor medium density PE (density cell 2) and 2900 psi (20 MPa)fiber stress in the pipe for high density PE (density cell 3 or 4)test specimens when tested in accordance with 9.1. The testequipment, procedures, and failures defi

33、nitions shall be asspecified in Test Method D1599.5.2.2 Sustained PressureThe fitting and fused joint shallnot fail when tested in accordance with 9.2. The test pressure,minimum time-to-failure, and test temperature shall be asrequired by the controlling pipe standard for the type of pipeused in the

34、 test. Where the controlling pipe standard requirestesting at multiple temperatures, sustained pressure testingshall only be performed at the highest test temperature, not toexceed 180F (82C). If a pipe standard is not specified, ordoes not contain test requirements, the test pressure, minimumtime-t

35、o-failure and test temperature shall be as shown in Table2.5.3 Tensile Strength Requirements (Coupling Type JointsOnly)The fitting or the pipe to fitting joint made on pipe shallnot fail when tested in accordance with 9.3. Specimens shall besubjected to a tensile stress that causes the pipe to yield

36、 to anelongation no less than 25 % or causes the pipe to breakoutside the joint area. Tensile tests must be made on specimensas joined, not on straps cut from the specimen. Yielding mustbe measured only in the pipe, independent of the fitting or joint.5.4 Impact Resistance (Saddle Type Joints Only)T

37、he jointmade on the specimen shall not fail when impacted with a forcesufficient to break the body or other portion of the specimen.Tests of 500 ftlbf or higher impact with no failures noted shallbe considered as a “pass” impact test. The device for testingand the methods shall be as defined in Prac

38、tice F905.5.5 Joint Integrity Tests(Couplings and Saddle TypeJoints)The joint made on the specimen shall meet therequirements in 9.4 and 9.5 of this specification, when tested inaccordance with 9.4.6. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations6.1 Dimension and tolerances of electrofusion fittings

39、mustbe such that heat fusion is possible to outside diameter (OD)controlled PE pipes such as those listed in SpecificationsD2513, D2737, D3035, and F714 and PEX pipes listed inSpecifications F876 and F2788, such that the joints will satisfythe performance requirements in Section 5.6.2 Because of the

40、 varying designs for electrofusion fittings,the actual spread of dimensions may be quite different frommanufacturer to manufacturer. A table of dimensions andtolerances encompassing these differences would be meaning-less and without value and, therefore, is omitted from thisspecification.FIG. 4 Inc

42、ances:6.3.1 Coupling inside diameter,6.3.2 Temperature joining limits, and6.3.3 Operating pressure of the fitting.NOTE 2There are other items that fall beyond the scope of thisspecification which would be of interest to the user for proper applicationof the fittings and is recommended as additional

43、information to befurnished. A few of these are: (1) maximum pipe out of round allowed atjoint area; (2) minimum/maximum pipe SDR capability of the fitting, and(3) for saddles intended for use on a live main, the maximum allowableline pressure when making the joint.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appeara

44、nce7.1 The manufacture of these fittings shall be in accordancewith good commercial practice so as to produce fittingsmeeting the requirements of this specification.7.2 The fittings shall be homogeneous throughout, exceptwhere a heating coil or electrical connectors are incorporated,and free of crac

45、ks, holes, foreign inclusions, or injuriousdefects such as gouges, dents, cuts, etc. The fittings shall be asuniform as commercially practicable in opacity, density, andother physical properties.Any heating coils, connecting cables,connectors, and related electrical power source shall be de-signed t

46、o prevent electrical shock to the user.8. Specimen Preparation8.1 Conditioning:8.1.1 Unless otherwise specified, condition the specimens(pipe and fittings) prior to joining at the minimum pipetemperature allowable for fusion as recommended by themanufacturer, for not less than 16 h and make the fusi

47、on jointat that temperature for those tests where conditioning isrequired.8.1.2 Unless otherwise specified, condition the specimens(pipe and fittings) prior to joining at the maximum pipetemperature allowable for fusion as recommended by themanufacturer, for not less than 16 h and make the fusion jo

48、intat that temperature for those tests where conditioning isrequired.8.2 Test ConditionsConduct the tests at the StandardLaboratory Temperature of 73 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) unlessotherwise specified.8.3 Preparation of Specimens for Testing:8.3.1 Prepare test specimens so that the minimum length ofunreinfo

49、rced pipe on one side of any fitting is equal to threetimes the diameter of the pipe, but in no case less than 12 in.(304 mm). It is permissible to test multiple fittings togetherprovided they are separated by a minimum distance equal tothree times the diameter of the pipe, but in no case less than 12in. (304 mm).8.3.2 Fuse all fitting outlets with the appropriate size pipe inaccordance with the manufacturers recommended procedures.8.3.2.1 For PEX pipes containing an exterior non-PEXlayer, such layers shall be completely removed according to
